krank 302 modify

Why this post: Im new to this forum, and also for V8. Normaly i modify VW and ford (european). Last year i build a MK1 Ford capri with a 302 engine (normally up to 3.0 V6). Lots of fun with te v8, iam now modifing it for more hp (and future hp's), but there are some questons comming up.

Question: Why the harmonic balancer and a weight in the krank?? ok the krank must be balanced, but isnt it be better to get a low weight krank so u can achieve an higher RPM? so why not remove all the balance. The balance of the flywheel is in the opposite direction then the balance of the harmonic b. so.. why not remove this weights till one balancer is equal to zero and re balance the crank inclusive flywheel and balancer.

i am modifiing for race purposes, not for a nice and calm running street engine..
