I dont see how that relates to drifting though?

One guy said that drifting isnt a race, and that it wont help you get around the track faster. I beg to differ on that. Take any car you like (RWD) let a good drifter go around a track and then YOU try it in the same car. I would bet my car that the drifter is faster by several seconds. Drifting around corners actually helps maintain speed while cornering when done right. IMO that beats the hell out of stomping the brakes at around 80-90mph to slow down to get through a turn and then stomping the gas again.

This is tru drifting slides the car to change the momentum so you can change direction with out slowing down. The drifting competition dont really take advantage of this cuz its nto their intention. They are goin more for a good show than speed.

Grip ALWAYS beats drift in terms of time. Drift looks faster. If you want to get *really*, *really* technical, tires are fastest with *some* slip angle, but not the type of angle that counts as any real drift. This has been shown time and time again. Look at the traction circle, if you've exceeded it in any one direction, you're no longer maximizing your grip, which means you could be going faster.

If drift was faster, why isn't it used in any "real" racing? The only place you'll see it is ocasionially in JGTC by someone ahead to block someone behind them's line for passing.

There's a few side-by-side videos showing the same car, same driver going around a track, one time drifting, one time gripping. EVERY time, the grip car is faster by several seconds.

If I find them, I'll post 'em up. Best I can find right now is Tsuchiya in his AE86 Corolla versus a Honda Civic R, where he doesn't drift until after he passes the Civic, and then only to block the Civic's line, and I don't think you'll view that as proof grip is faster.
