Traction > Horsepower
Last night at the track I raced an '08 GT with a fully built 306 stroker motor and NOS and I won. He's got over 400 HP to the rear wheels vs my stock (intake & tune) '08 GT, but he can't get the power to the ground.
I was running very close behind an '08 GT with a Whipple HO (he was in the mid to high 8's) and a '03 Cobra with a smaller pully and some bolt ons (he was in the mid to high 8's) because neither of them could hook up. Same thing with the mostly stock GTO's and the stock Charger SRT8's out last night - they can't hook up. I can't hook up either, but at least I'm not blowing 400-500 horsepower out through the rear tires on every race, and I'm barely behind the guys that are.

I've never understood the guys that come on here and just want to know how to make more power with no thought whatsoever to their tires or susupension. Good kills.

roger that. i always get asked whats done to the motor, thatis until someone sees my car launch, then they wanna know what i did to make it take off like a bat out of hell. horsepower is useless without traction. and normally all people think to do is add a gob of horsepower, and not spend much if any attention to the suspension. but if you can't put your power down, whats the point?

Panhard bar isn't really necessary for drag racing, and aftermarket UCAs are actually detrimental to you handling if you want to take a corner.
I would think a panhard would actually be detrimental to drag launches, as it's going to push (or pull, if it's level with the axle at normal ride height) the axle laterally under compression. If you need lateral axle location, I'd save up the extra $300 and get a watts link.

dont do that if you race on regular street tires. just do a short burnout to clean em off. |

i most definitely have to agree. I read an article in mm&ff a while ago, and there was a guy with a 99 gt they did a little spread on. The guy was bone stocking the motor, but if i remember correctly had almost 10k into his suspension. Point being this guy pulled the front up on a stock motor

Problem with that is you run the risk of burning up your rear brakes.

You build the car from the back to front. So many people do it backwards. -Mark

Suspension, Suspension, Suspension and tires too. The first mods to my cars are the suspnsion and chassis mods. because what good is 400hp when you spin through 3rd.
