Fiberglass Hood Repair

Was going to put this in the Visual section, but wanted to know where around here this could be done.

Can fiberglass hoods be repaired? Say the corner was rubbed off pretty well (i.e. paint completely off and fiberglass splintered) can it be fixed?

If so, where is a good place around here to take it?

My hood was vandalized and I'm not sure whether to have the insurance take care of it or do it myself.

Fiberglass is pretty easy to fix. One good thing about it is you can always add more and always take more off. Any pics of the damage?

No pics, but one corner is pretty much gone, i.e. as if you dragged it along the street and rubbed it off, and another is slightly less damaged.

So kinda like a square with a 90* edge chopped off? A 90* die grinder w/ a 60 grit roll loc should clean all the screwed up stuff/edges/frays etc off. From there go a few inches out from the damage to give the new glass something to stick to and begin your repair. Fairly simple given you have the tools. If not just pay your deductible n let ins. take care of it.

To pick things up from "being your repair" id lay some heavy glass w/ whatever resin down trying to get the rough shape of what the hood should be. Before its fully cured hit the surface of it w/ the grinder w/ 60 grit disc and lay another layer of glass (this allows it to bond both chemically and physicaly..i know physicaly isnt the right word i just cant think of it lol) Then let it cure and shape it down as close as you can to what the hood should be like using a combo of the grinder w/ 60 grit, a block with some 40 grit, and a da sander w/ 80 grit. From there add more glass and repeat if you have to. If not id then lay down some duraglass, similar to kitty hair but no strands and dries ROCK hard. Get as close to your final shape as you can now blocking it with 40 or 80. Then fill it and block with 80, then putty and block with 180 and youre ready for primer.
