Georgia on My Mind - Steeda to Relocate to Valdosta, Georgia

The new home of Steeda Autosports in Valdosta, Georgia will be operational in 18 months. The new 25 acre campus will contain the corporate, manufacturing and distribution facilities as well as a skid pad, slalom course and test track.

Seeking a new home for its corporate headquarters and production facility in a business friendly climate, Steeda Autosports will relocate to Valdosta, Georgia from Pompano Beach, Florida. The move will bring up to 100 jobs and a $10 million investment in a new 100,000 ft facility. Steeda President, Dario Orlando said the company considered locations in Alabama, North Carolina, and other cities in Georgia before making the commitment to Valdosta. “The proximity to I-10 and I-75 for distribution makes Valdosta the perfect place for us” Dario stated. “Valdosta is a clean, growing city and will be good our company’s employees”. Orlando concluded.

Speaking at the recent ceremony welcoming Steeda Autosports to Valdosta and Lowndes County were Valdosta Mayor, John Fretti, Lowndes County Commission Chairman, Rod Casey and Valdosta –Lowndes County Industrial Authority Chairman, John Peeples. State Senator Tim Golden welcomed Steeda on behalf of the legislative delegation. “This is a very progressive city and community” Senator Golden stated. “It is also home to the most pro-business delegation in the state of Georgia. Call on us and we will move mountains to make it happen for you”

The 25 acre Steeda campus will consist of the manufacturing and distribution facilities, plus a skid pad, slalom course and test track. The test track will have a variety of surfaces to aid in the development and prove out process for Steeda vehicles in terms of noise, vibration and harshness. The nearby drag strip, South Georgia Motorsports Park, is a new, state of the art facility that will be utilized for vehicle testing and product evaluation. The Steeda Autosports campus should be operational in 18 months and will initially employ 40 to 50 people, with 100 employees hired over 36 months.

Another great company packs up and leaves South Florida. If our great Florida Politicians continue to play up to the Special Interest Groups, mainly the Developers and Insurance companies, soon there will be nothing in Florida but shopping malls, early bird eaterys, and alot of empty houses that no one can afford.

As of date we have lost Motorola in Boynton Beach, United Airlines in Miami which prior to 2005 had a Pilot/Flight Attendant base, employed over 1,000 workers, and flew over a 100 flights a day including domestic and international routes. Today United has only two (2) jet aircraft routes to Denver. The other (4) flights are regional aircraft to Chicago, and United employes less than 100.

Now we learn Steeda is leaving in the height of this new performance car era. Steeda is not down sizing but infact expanding, and yet does any of our local/state politician step in to offer an incentive to stay?
