You "have to have them". if you don't, your car won't pass insection and you have to have an inspection sticker to drive around. I don't know the fines because i have a catted x.

let me guess the other 2 or combined with the shorties right? and when longtubes are put in the there deleted along with the h-pipe that gets switched with a x pipe then...

I was thinkin is there anyway to put fake cats in? I was thinkin of cutting the stock ones and cutting them in pieces and using htem as a shell and put over on the xpipe. Then again I can always get high flow cats put in...not like there gonna notice since I dont have to take a smog check and my shop will pass me and havin somethin there atleast the cop would say ok and not check everything.

I mean I never heard a cop checking before...has anyone?

Not to mention it's a violation of federal law to remove a functioning catalytic convertor from a vehicle i.e. if it ain't rustin you can't take it off legally. I'm gonna have my muffler guy accidentally drop my catted h whenever I get the headers and hopefully the innards will fall out or he may have to *cough* torch them.

No the only time you can replace the factory cats is if they rust or fall apart. Nice try lol.

25 is antique and I belive 15 is classic.

Classic or not catalytic convertors are required on all vehicles under 6200 GVWR made on or after 1977. Most inspection guys don't pay attention to mid 70s and older vehicles.

Oh and you can change your cats, I'm not trying to scare you just trying to inform As long as the epa isn't looking over your shoulder you're fine. Nonetheless a 2000 Mustang requires catalytic convertors to be street legal. Nobody's gonna know if they're hollowed

I was pulled over for speeding about two years ago and the cop looked around my car and underneath, and then told me he could give me tickets for my illegal window tint, my raised hood, and my exhaust. He said he could tell it was illegal by looking underneath the car and from the sound. He cut me a lot of slack by giving me less of a speeding ticket than he could have (10 mph over vice 15+) and didn't ticket me for the other stuff. I think he liked my car, lol.

I don't know about the $1k per cat thing, but I do know you can get ticketed for it. My 'stang is registered in Michigan, so I don't have to worry about state inspection, but I do know that if you are driving through the state of Virginia you have to follow ALL of their laws. About three years ago I got a reckless driving speeding ticket on 264 (76/55) and the cop additionally gave me a ticket for my illegal window tint. When I went into court for the speeding ticket I tried to argue about the window tint, since what I have is legal in the state of Michigan, and the judge told me that if I'm driving through the state of VA I have to adhere to all of it's laws.
