I have to chalk this one up as a win for my 98GT even though it was only to second gear...read why.

98Gt with little odds and ends...short throw, control arms, etc. with 3.73's, catted X and flows catback...so nothing special.

Just out cruising after work and I pull off a side street and kick the back end out...I can do this pretty stealthy without making alot of tire noise and drawing attention...just having some fun. I see a later model Mustang behind me and he must have seen me slide around the corner because he comes up on me pretty quick...I knew what he wanted. Traffic separates us and I get inside lane at a light...he manages to get the outside lane but while i was stopped he was still rolling when the light turns green. He does slow down but doesn’t stop then guns it. Not quite fair but I step on it anyway. By the time I hit second he's already a car length ahead. I think oh well he had a rolling start on me and he's got at least 40 horses on my 98 but damn he was quick. He gets hung up in traffic and as I go by I give him a thumbs up being a good sport.

We make it to another light side by side his girls sitting next to him, our windows are down. I see he's got a 40th Anniversary badge on the fender and we exchange "nice car" to each other and I tell him he got me good back there. He says "I've done things to it...I got almost 400 HP". I say...then you really got me beat, I just have gears and exhaust.

The lights about to turn green and I want to see how bad he beats me with his 400 horses. He brings up the revs...I start to think to myself...he doesn’t even have exhaust! 400 my ass! Green...I got a good launch getting him off the start pretty badly. I see his front bumper is behind my rear when I hear his tires break as he grabs second...I said shit, he's gonna blow past me now cause I’m past my peaks at about 4800 on my way to 5200....5200 hits and I grab second with about the same amount of spin as he did...I look and he's only at my rear tire...no way!? He didn’t overtake me and he's not pulling on me!

All of the sudden he slams on his brakes and turns onto a side street. ???What just happen??? I start to think maybe he took it easy on me with his 400 horses...then I realize...um he's a guy with his girl next to him...he launched hard and hit second hard...no guy with his girl in the car is gonna LET someone take them. 400HP? No way! More horses in his 04 to my 98? Most definitely! Bad driving for him? Absolutely! But a win is a win.

For him to turn off that quick he was just talkin out his @ss about 400 horses. I know if I raced someone else though they would probably beat me till i hit 3rd gear. With almost 400 horses its hards to keep traction.
