not to jump in late but don't forget auto-cross. all you need is a car and a valid drivers license. clubs are all over the US . there are 5 here in NC. entry fees are normally $35 bucks or less and you get to turn plus go straight. definitely a lot better than a ticket. I'm by no means a expert but I'm willing to give anybody help on getting started regardless of type of car.

re

It's not at all the way it used to be, We would go to a strech of road in
the country were we could post look outs and be sure there was
no trafic, settle our scores and go back to town and all grab a pizza together. We never thought of playing in traffic, sure we'd rack off our pipes at each other or give it a shot for a few feet from a light.
Now I see these guy's going all out in traffic and doing stunts on their bikes at high speed on crowded roads.????
I like my car too much to wipe it out being stupid.
Thankfully I live right between 3 drag strips and can race at least three days a week in the summer if I want.

Street racing is the stupidest thing my freind ever tried, we were leaving his house and i was ahead, not racing or anything, so he tries to show off by flooring it around a blind corner, lost traction in his front tires and slid into me, luckily it was late at night and there was no one out jogging. But any way he lost his licence and his car and is paying for the damage to my car. i just thank god that there was no one else on the road that night, and that my car was there to stop him from sliding off the road and into the river down below.

Street Racing almost ended my life last fall. I owned a 1999 Mustang Cobra. My brother and I salvaged her from a junkyard cheaply because it had sat around for over two years and it became infested with roaches (And my brother knew the guy who owned the junkyard). We bought the whole thing for less then five-thousand dollars. We did some major body work on her and brought her back to the condition she was in when she was new.

My brother gave me that car when I turned sixteen even thou my parents protested. I raced almost every weekend for the next year and a half becoming really good and a little infamous because none of the other high school kids owned cars that could take my Cobra. I loved that car and I still do.

In the fall I let one of my friends drive because I had been drinking and I was tired. I fell asleep in the passenger seat against the door. The idiot I let drive the car decided to test her out and hit the gas. He too raced cars. He brought the car to over ninety miles and hour before he lost control and went in to a skid. He skidded in to the opposite lane and we were hit by another car. I was injured and I was quickly rushed to the hospital.

I spent five days in a coma and eleven day an intensive care. I was released a total of twenty five days after the accident but I was in a wheel chair for twelve weeks after that. It took me another five weeks to fully learn how to walk again. Near the end of my rehab another guy that I raced with died in a car accident. His funeral was yesterday. The poor kid lost control of his car and flipped it. He was eighteen years old, which is way too young to die.

I'm on a small campaign not to stop racing but to make the street racers stop racing the streets and maybe move to the drag strips and tracks and stuff. When I'm able to get behind the wheel without panicing I'm going to build a new car with some help of my old racing buddies and do some track stuff.

Sorry to hear about your loss wolfman. Good luck with your campaign too. The whole street racing thing sure does seem to have gotten out of hand. Similar to what mach03 said, things use to be different when we raced, not that I'm condoning street racing. Even though I grew up in Toronto, a huge city, we used to meet at a place, look at our cars in the parking lot, bench race, ball-bust, and bs all night, and then go to an isolated place either just out of the city or in an abandonded industrial zone, and have at her.
We raced a set distance, with one person controlling the start, and no one was allowed to race if they didn't belt up, or if their car was deemed to be a pos. I know this is still not brilliant, but never once did anyone get hurt, let alone go through the tragedy you did in all the time I was growing up there.
Fast forward to today, where we see in my area young guys who barely know how to handle a lawnmower, let alone a fast car, getting busted for going 120 mph, IN TOWN!! Or we see 3 or 4 or more of them flying down the hwy at over 100 mph, weaving in and out of traffic like they think they are in a Nascar race. I have done some stupid things in my life, to be sure, and at 37, I'm willing to admit my mistakes. But I have never, ever, handled a car on the street in this manner, and anyone who gets busted doing so deserves whatever they get.
Just my 2 cents. Rick

good post..

the only bad result I saw from street racing was I watching a honda civic and some other rice burner racing down a "empty" street but they plowed through a mini van at a intersection.. i was one of the first people on the scene.. i wont go into details but 3 children under 15 died and a mother.. 1 father was put in critical condition.. i dont know if he lived or not but if he did he has to live with knowing his kids and wife died because of some stupid little punks.. if thats not a reason to not street race i dont know what is..

a friend of mine was street racing in his se-r spec v against some civic and a car was backing out of a driveway and he hit them totaling there car, his car and my other friend was in his passenger seat. they were both really lucky where the only injuries were to my friend in the passenger seat who had neck injuries and a broken nose. in the end my friend with the spec v was sued, got his license suspended and put on probation for 5 years

Anyone notice that most of these stories involve racing a civic? I think we should just stop racing civics. CIVICS CAUSE WRECKS!!

Uh, yeah, on a serious note, street racing can be safe but the chances are small and it's most likely an organized sanction like a previous poster said with the cops and stuff watching.

Hopefully America will catch on and build more tracks for our youth to race on. When my kids get old enough to drive I hope like hell they heed my warnings and take it to the track.

I've had my share of street races, but honestly they weren't worth the bragging rights.

so get together with some of your friends and turn an old corn field into a track. Thats what they did for 75-80 in Frederick, Md.
