Mid to late 90`s Mustang

I got a question, few days ago I was just cruising around and this yellow with black racing stripes 95 to 96 mustang (not that good with the 80-90 year model mustangs in looks) but he was behind me and went to go pass and like usually I pushed the gas, well the roads were went and i didnt press the gas that much cause my tires had hardly no tread left at the time and giving just alittle gas from a redlight when making a turn and one or both tires will spin like crazy. Well I dont know if it was a V6 mustang or not or if the owner of the stang comes in here but I was just wondering head to head how would my vehicle compare to the mustang considering that i didnt give 100% throttle and that I stayed very even with him and he didnt walk away from me.

My specs are as follows 351W (5.8L) 144bhp (150hp) 2.50:1 rearend (open) 3,985 lbs (curb weight) 4,000 lbs Estimated (with driver and gas)

Considering how i stayed with him at half throttle and he couldnt pass me up am i correct in assuming that 95 and 96 year model mustangs arent that fast in stock layout or that the kid just didnt know how to drive?

yea sure, and i bet your assuming he was on the wrong side of the road when this is a 4 lane road divided by a median and i was in the right lane and he was in the right and then moved into the left so he could go faster than me dong 40 in a 35 which is also on wet roads, its real nice how people assume, but then again thats how people make asses out of themselves when they assume. But stupid? no its not stupid cause he can stay in that lane regardless of howfar he drives considering the lane he moved to was going in the same direction as me. But then again i bet you already knew that didnt you.

But to get back to the topic i was asking if about the comparison if it was fair considering that the stang is lighter than me, has more power than me and the fact that i never stomped the gas nor did i turn the ac off that i was running.

Well I have half throttle and the rpms were up around 3500 - 4000 the whole time, and it seemed that he was straining to keep up but yea he probably didnt get on it too much. But then again few days ago i was able to keep up with a 2005 corvette I didnt gain on him and he didnt leave me. But I found it funny though cause i could have left the mustang if the roads werent wet.

The way you worded it made it sound like it was a 2 laned road so I can see why drgnracin72 said what he said. I run into idiots around here all the time that drive slower than I want to go in the right lane and then when I get in the left lane to pass them they speed up so I can't pass them. That shit gives me road rage.

But anyway, what kind of car do you have?

Well I was in a 35mph zone and it was a schoolzone atop that and im going 40 through there and it was also raining real hard. I went back and re-read what i posted and i could swear i said that he moved over to the left lane cause i wasnt going fast enough another thing is that i guess he did that cause he was making a left turn cause i noticed when i stopped at the next red light he was making a left turn into the stripmall so he probably got into his left lane to be prepaired to make a left but he joined in when i gave the car more gas like a quickie race.

Anyways I was running a 78 Cougar XR7 with the stock 2.50:1 rearend and 144bhp (150hp) 351W-2V. With the old sparkplug wires and the passengerside brake pad rubbing the rotor i think the car accelerates quicker now than ever but the best time before i changed the wires and the pads i got a best 0 to 60 mph of 6.7 in Drive and 6.3 shifting manually.

ill tell you this, that vette was not racing you. think about half the weight, twince the horsepower. he was just cruising and you were giving it hell. sorry to bust your bubble but there is no way in hell youd even remotly keep up with a bette unless a 4 yr old was driving!!!

Yeah, no kidding. 400 horsepower and 3400 pounds versus 144hp and 4000 pounds. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
