Beat By Friends SRT-4

Well the last time we raced we were dead even, we have always been dead even since I got the Mach even with my exhaust, this is from a roll. I have recently added a aluminum drive shaft, CAI, and xcal 2 with a custom tune. We raced again saturday and I was confident that I was going to win since I have added things to my car. Well that was not the case, he was pulling away from me pretty good. He gets about a car length in front of me now. Im thinking WTF? He kept telling me he had not done anything to his car but then he checked and said on his boost controler he had it turned up 21 notches instead of the 17 he had run the last time. Im not sure what that means but my guess is he was running more boost? How much do you guys think the extra notches( a turn) on the boost controler would give him? I wish he would of run it the same as last time because I want to know how much of a improvemnet I got out of my new mods especially the tune.

He is running a stage two turbo with exhaust and all these other goodies. This sucks.. My problem might also be that im connecting a lot less to the ground, I think I feel it slide through the gears instead of grab though them. Not sure if that makes sence but yeah.... Do you think my new mods are enough to make my tires break loose now when at WOT(used street tires)? I know they are little mods but meh... who knows.

15HP per pound is the norm on a v8

2.0L makes about an additional 5-10hp per lb of boost, and a "click" on boost controller isn't a standardized measurement, so no way to tell how boost he had versus how much he has now.

Don't know why you're racing him from a roll, though, unless you're intending to give him an advantage?

Heh heh yup, from a dig I can take him with a good launch or atleast I use to. The challenge I have is from a roll, we have always been dead even as long as we both get our shifts right. Now he is taking me and its killing me, I thought I was going to start pulling away with my new mods but he had to go and turn up that boost controler. From what he told me he runs from 17-21 PSI but now im not sure what he is pushing.

Im getting some drag radials soon so hopefully that will get me back in the game. Will definitly kill from a dig but not sure how much it will help from a roll. Im guessing it will because I can kind of feel like its not grabbing when I have the pedal to the floor.

Man so if he went from 17 to 21psi thats 20-40hp more than before. That sucks lol well for me anyway lol I bet he is loving it.

Is there a chance your clutch is slipping?

I dont think so, its pretty new and with my windows open I can kind of hear and feel them slide a little. There is also a lot of dirt in the area since its out in the farms so not the best traction out there. Also when I took off from a roll in first and sometimes second when I slamed it to the floor it started doing the sideway slide, I had to let off the pedal a bit then hit it again so it would grab. Atleast I hope its not the clutch but im almost 100% sure its the tires, they are pretty used up. Still have a little thread in them but I really never liked them, I wish I would of still had the tires it came with when I bought it still street tires but a whole lot better than these.

If money's an issue, Kumho ECSTAs are really good tires (for about 10k-15k miles), and you can get them from tirerack for less that $100 per corner in 245/45R17. I have the ASXs on the Cobra (I won't put anything but allseason tires on a DD), and I really like them.

Also, if you're worried about your buddy's ability to just crank up the boost, just remember that he's killing his reliability unless he's being very careful and doing other things besides just upping the boost.

That might be something I might look into, I need both front and back tires. I was going to go with nitto 555R for the back but was not sure what to go with for the front.

Yeah im not sure how much that stage two setup will hold in boost but I think he is right at the limit since he is not going any higher.

21 psi wouldn't matter because he'd be pulling timing. Lots of it to.
