Heads up in Carrollwood/Lutz Fl!

So I'm going down Dale Mabry, cruisin' in my Capri when a black Fox GT comes flying up on my rear. He starts revving and honking and flashing his lights. He ends up next to me at a light and does the whole revving/inching forward thing. It was a sharp looking car too, nice paint, dark tint. It sounded mean as hell too.

Now my Capri is stock except for an Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley 635 so I knew I would get eaten alive. Needless to say I declined the race and waved him on. I have no problem admitting that the Cpair isn't that fast, when I want to go fast I drive the LX. So he stayed next to me until we got to the next light. Then he honked his horn. I look over as he starts to roll down his window. I see forehead, sunglasses, a white shirt and A BADGE!! It was a F^%@ing COP! I can't imagine the look on my face. He smiles at me and says "Good job, that was real smart." as he jerks his thumb to point behind us as an unmarked Expedition came to a stop right behind me. I was blown away. I just looked at him and said "thanks dick."

The light turned green and he hauled ass. Morel of the story: don't race a black fox GT in Lutz/Carrollwood.

so if you race, does he get busted for street racing, too? Or does he just come off the line and back out of it at the speed limit? What if you launch hard, don't leave any scratch, and only go up to the speed limit?

What a dick... I hope he gets shot in the spine.

Yeah, entrapment is the first thing I thought too but I was told by an ex cop I work with that it would not be because I had a choice not to race. What a dick thing to do.

As much as I disagree with what he did I can't agree with that. I have seen too many times what a bullet will do and can't wish that on any but criminals. For the most part cops as a whole are cool, I have a couple friends in TPD. I have found it's pretty hard to get pulled for racing unless you get crazy. I see the cops sitting there at the car show watching people do burnouts and race as they leave and just grin.

It's worse in Cali - here, they crush your car for street racing. There have been several cases where the car is crushed before the person is convicted. It's paticularly bad in San Diego and Sacramento - cops will roll up on groups of cars in parking lots, then pop *everybody's* hood and give tickets for "illegal modifications", half the time the mods they're giving the ticket for are either stock (happens to a lot of STi and Evo guys), or CARB exempt.

That's why I was paticularly harsh; I'm very sensitive to cops doing shit like that, and I think at the least they should lose their job over it.

Yeah thats horrible that they crush your car before people are even convicted, that IS toeing the line of a police state. As for the Fox thats practically entrapment and BS IMO. We had something like that here in London, except it was a hot blonde cop in an Acura who would challenge you to a race. I agree never race any stranger with tints. It sad we gotta be so careful now but the police and the gov't are really cracking down ... bastards.

im pretty sure that they cant make you pop your hood in you are parked and outside of your vehicle. Pretty sure they can't make you pop your hood in general. that would be basing off they can only search your vehicle if (a) they have your permission or (b) you or your passenger are arressted, they then have the right to search the entire car I.E glovebox/open or closed containers. (c) if they fear that you possess something in your car is a danger to them or other people. under your hood is not something they can search. I may misunderstand the law but theres my take.

I do believe you are correct. That would fall under unlawful search and siezure which is a violation of your constitutional rights. So in other words, a cop makes me pop my hood + I have done nothing wrong and have not acted suspicious in any way + I have not given permission = Me and my fancy pants lawyer own a police department.

At least that is how I interpret the laws I was forced to pour over for hours when I got my security license.

From my understanding from a cop florida doesnt have entrapment laws. But with the way cops are today he was prob. lying to me. lol.

yeah cant you just say " i dont concent to any searches officer" and they cannot search you unless they SEE in plain sight something that is illegal or of harmful use. correct?

and about racing people with tints.....i would usually roll down my window, then they would do the same, just so we can see eachother and make sure its legit. kuz if you roll yours down, they should roll theirs down. thats my strategy.

Unless your constitutional rights are no longer valid in California you can say no. Sometimes a cop will insist his way right through mild protests until you firmly say NO. Say it loud so others hear you say it. That way if they still force you to, you have witnesses. If they write you a ticket for something or worse, impound your vehicle, get a lawyer and take it to court. After you win (unless they can somehow come up with justifiable cause they will lose) file a civil suit against the dept for violation of your civil rights. Then call a news station and tell them all about it.

If a cop walked up to me and said to pop the hood, he might as well tell me to drop my pants. And if he can demand you open your car to him for no reason, what would stop him from making you drop trou if he wanted to? Being a Police officer does not make him above the law.

I have seen it happen many times. and just the other day that happend to me. But i was in a construction zone with workers. Got mad that a cop would even try and get some one to go fast in a dangerous place like that. i bet he would feel real bad if some dumb kid did actually would and kill a worker, all for a ticket.

He said that he thought his left rear taillight was out but it wasn't and let us go but ya its get really bad here.
