S-197 Mustang killed....

I was taking a walk with my wife today and I heard some engine reving with two totally different sounds which obviously draw my attention!! It was a S-197 Mustang GT(not sure which year..) and a Nissan Skyline. I could hear that whissle from the turbo of the skyline and that nice rumbling from the Stang and then boom...they left on the green light...The Stang got walked pretty badly which was not what I anticipated...A couple minutes later I walked in front of a bank and see the Skyline so I decided to stop and talk to the owner( who was a really cool, not cocky guy and proud owner of a 1989 notch 5.0 also!!). He told me that the Skyline is a 1989 GTR, has a twin turbo and puts down 400 hp tho the wheels...He also said that he just had his forth child so he has to sell one of the cars and guess what?? He is keeping the Stang!! So I guess that the Skylines really deserve the nickname of "Godzilla"...Just thought I would share...

your in canada so you get to see all those cool cars like skylines and silvias. in the states ive only seen 2 real silvias and both were at nopi i havent seen a skyline at all in the states but i saw the new GT-R at atco nopi. My dad ordered the new GT-R edmunds tested it at 0-60 in something like 3.3 and it was beating the 911 turbo, zo6, and viper in the 1/4 mile. As the first skyline sold directly to the united states i think they will only be producing about 1,500. (left hand drive)

there's a few floating around herre in Jacksonville, NC.. they stay hidden most of the time though.. i did catch one going in the opposite direction of me one day, tried to turn around to catch him but didn't work because of the stupid light system they have in Jacksonville... stupid weight sensors..

in real life with the cars given equal drivers, the GTR loses to both the z06 and 9ll turbo in any kind of race. i think the lowest the GTR ran was 11.5 but on average running 11.8's. we all know the z06 can hit low 11's stock. but next year the GTR is coming out with the spec-V which come with like 70-100 more horsepower, weighs way less, and comes with even better suspension. now that thing should take the zr1's and destroy a 911.

I find it funny that you say the GTR will loose to these cars in any kind of race, but then only give 1/4 mile numbers to back that up.

I'm not disagreeing with what you've said, per se, but just because you can beat me on the short and straight from a stop, don't mean sh#t when it comes to a track, neck and neck at 120+ coming into a tight right-hander.

i get what your saying but the only reason i listed 1/4 mile times is because the guy i quoted was talking about the 1/4 mile. anything after the 1/4 mile the GTR will get ate the hell up. the car weighs about 600 more pounds then the other cars and has less power. the only reason it does so well in the 1/4 is because the all wheel drive, double clutch tranny, and its gearing. in the lap of america it placed 11th, 2 porsche's and a z06 beat the gtr. here is the ranking sheet One Lap of America - the Official Webpage

ah, ok. And I do agree, I believe the Z06 to be an all-around faster car. What I expect though, is that the GT-R will be a much easier car to drive fast, due to all the fancy-pants techo-wizardry and whatnot saving dumbass drivers from themselves.

I see them every week here in Edmonton. I've raced a few as well. Got a bunch of GTR's, R32's, etc (R34's are illegal here) and a few S13's (S14's and S15's are pretty much illegal here as well). They're quick, but an S197 can out run a stock GTR or R32.

alot of guys who test drove the car say it is one of the easiest cars ever to drive, and that its suspension and tranny is made to make a mediocre driver look like a trained professional...but they still loved the car nonetheless. as for the best all around fast car, i would think the porsche would be the best because its made for that pure fun and performance and dominates at a track or dragstrip...but they are ugly IMO, well some of them anyway.

it depends, because i hear an r32 GTR right out the factory comes with some type of boost controller and you can safely tweak it to hit 300+hp instead of whatever its standard HP it came with. so out of factory and without buying any mods, it "can" be a 12 sec car. for whatever reason nissan didnt want it to leave the factory with more then its standard HP.

well according to the awesome wikipedia.. the gtr v-spec definitely out runs all Porsches and Corvettes being ran on that great track known as Nurburgring.. and if that track doesn't test a vehicle to its limits i dont know a track that will..

Nurburgring Fastest Lap Times

when you get to the page look for the chart that says "Production Car Lap Times"

i stand corrected.. i jus read it again.. there is an Edo modified Porsche GT2 RS.. but it's not a stock on obviously.. which makes it null and void in our conversation..

yeah thats what i was talking about earlier when i was saying it will annihilate everything. but the regular GTR (which is out in the states already) will not.

For whatever reason, the Japanese car manufacturers used to have a "gentleman's agreement" to cap their cars at something around 276hp. That's why almost every single Japanese performance car from the mid-90s is horribly underrated.
