I don't know where you all are from but here in MA it seems every year they add a handful of really stupid laws, anyway they can have more control over people. I personally don't agree with a lot of the law system here and when I get my life together after school I'm getting the hell out. I do respect officers who work hard and try there hardest to keep our society at a calm, I don't respect the cops that let the badge get to their heads sadly they outweigh the good ones. I have far too many stories to type, but if you raced where people constantly travel through no offense but you got what you deserved, read in the papers how many people die in racing accidents on the streets in busy intersections and what not every year and how many people they take out with them. Now if you race in desolate area which still isn't as safe as a track and I am guilty of doing this then I don't see any reason for the officer to go that far but I can see him pulling you over to knock some sense into you. All in all good luck with every thing! and I love the people that come in here and start pointing the finger your on a site to modd your mustang so I'm sure you've crossed the line once or twice. I admit that I street race once in a while but thats usually when no one is up to care it's still stupid but what can I say its a hell of a drug. Sorry for your loss and I hope everything works out for you.

LOL Great Idea! That would be SO funny. Say it begins to look like you will never get your car. Try to "get back" to it for like personal belongings or w/e. Take a small coke bottle of gas and douse the hell outta the inside and strike a match and haul ass! LOL. If they havnt "officially" taken "ownership" of the car... then it still "belongs" to you. In alot of states there is no law what so ever about torching you own stuff. Sure they would find a few other BS charges to stick ya with but hey! They wont be using your car in drug stings and setting sucker up for street races!

Street racing deserves a severe penalty.
I have come around on this slowly. I'm not saying that I used to believe it should be legal, I've always thought it should be against the law. But I understand the need for harsher punishment now as compared to 23 years ago when I street raced more often. Why? Because years ago there was far less traffic on the highway. That doesn't mean it's 100% safe, obviously, as anything can happen in a race, even if you're only going 60 mph. Try smashing your car head on in to a tree, pole, or parked car at 60 mph and tell me how you feel. But the fact is that back then we could get out on the highway, or in to an industrial area, at 2 am, and not see another vehicle. These days in most areas there is traffic 24/7 days a week. Another thing that has changed is how people race. Back when I raced, if we came upon any traffic, the race is over. That's it, that's all. Now I see young guys with bone stock cars weaving through traffic like the second coming of Mario Andretti. They don't stop for anything. I have guys all the time fly by me, tap their brake lights, and then take off like a bat out of hell.....in morning rush hour traffic. Where, exactly, are we supposed to be racing to? Jail? That being said, although I do believe in a harsher penalty for street racing now, I think that losing your car is uncalled for. Heavy fine? Sure. Take your license for a few months, a year, or more? Sure. Become uninsurable for a couple years? Yup. But to take someone's car, something that one has worked and paid for strikes me as wrong on every level. Isn't that what happens to drug dealers? Maybe make it so that you cannot drive that car, and perhaps even be forced to sell it, but to take a persons car somehow strikes me as very big brotherish on a lot of different levels.

Could pour sugar and/or salt in the gas tank.... a little easier than torching it O_o
Anyway, that really sucks that you got slapped so hard with the long dick of the law. I hope you get your car back. Last edited by Uncle Humjaba : May 17th, 2008 at 06:52 PM. |

I'll admit, I street race and street race quite often. But, I do not do it when there is traffic around. We got a couple industrial spots we go to on Friday and Saturday nights and race there. In the 2 months we have been going to the one spot, we have yet to see a single vehical that was not with us in the area. And we be as safe as we can, there is always someone with a walkie in areas to let us know if there is incoming traffic so we won't race.
However, if you are one of the people who street race through major traffic and weave around other cars, you should be nailed, and nailed hard. It's bad enough if you put your life and the other drivers life on the line, but when you put about 50 other peoples lives on the line it's a different story. |

What this guy is facing is worst than what a first time drunk driver would get. Going to jail and keeping a car is way to harsh. Now maybe if you have multiple street racing offense then yea maybe then jail time should be in order.
Let me ask all you something. Is there any law that limits how fast you can accelerate?

Not true. You can get just as dead at 65 mph as you can at 100.

here its called improper acceleration. breaking traction or not if they see you gun it they can get you. trust me i pulled from a shopping center and just ran first gear out ( coming up to a redlight no need to really shift.. but i wanted to hear it rumble and pop so i left it in gear, had a friend with me) light turns green and i see flashing lights. i pulled over and it was a state trooper. gimme a break...
he was SUCH a complete asshole about it. i had my insurance and license ready before he got to the car and i tryed to hand it to him as he was asking for my license and he was like " DID I ASK FOR YOUR INSURANCE CARD? NOOOOO. GIVE ME YOUR DANG LICENSE!" so it was a line of bs about how i was drag racing.. and i said i wasnt and that ther wasnt even a car next to me and that i had simply ran the gear out up to the redlight. hell it wasnt but like 30 feet from where i pulled out from.. maybe more but its a guess.. anyways he asked me what drag racing was and i explained two cars in a speed contest.. etc. etc.. and he went on to tell me how drag racing doesnt take two cars and how what i did was considered drag racing and i could have killed someone... i got off with a warning but still yet he held me up for about 35 minutes. it was a complete crock. needless to say, here in tn improper acceleration can get you in trouble. and i understand that . bc if u accelerate and someone walks out that can kill them just as easily as if u were driving 50mph. its not the speed its the impact of a large car hitting a frail body of flesh and bones. in my case.. i wasnt doing any harm and there wasnt even ANY cars on the street it was like midnight.. but o well. i didnt get a ticket so its cool

odds are they will recognize you and get ur plate when they see u back out and act like they had it the whole time. what im thinking of here is if you did this in your home town. i live in knoxville, tn its not THAT big of a place so odds are no farther than i travel the cops would recognize my car pretty easily so i better not do any running from the law. ive done it before and got away but was scared to drive my car for a few days so i drove my beater around instead but nothing ever came of it. i was with my friend and he tryed and wasnt to lucky . cant out run the radios!
