Squeaking On Passenger Side

Ok, ever since i purchased my '01 v6 I have been experiencing a quite annoying high pitched squeak from the passenger side front wheel well. It is loud enough to be heard inside the car with windows up, but only at low speeds, like in a parking lot for instance. I have taken it to my mechanic who said it was either the tie rod or ball joint. He just called me and said the tie rod looked fine, so he was going to replace the ball joint. I have seen the thread and the fix for replacing the sleeves that seemed to be causing the squeaking for some. So, i guess my question is. What do you guys think is more probable, the ball joint being bad or rusted, or the sleeves needing replaced. I do trust my mechanic, just wanted to get the opinion of you guys because I also value your knowledge on the subject. again, it's a 2001 with just over 90k.

TIA

that could be a lot, maybe the ball joint possibly a wheel bearing. Your best bet is probably just let your mechanic take care of it

to me it sounds more like it could be your water pump. more often than not a squeaking noise is usually the alternator. but because you said its coming from more on the passenger side i would say your looking more at the water pump

I appreciate the input guys, I am picking the car up tomorrow morning and I will let you all know the result of the ball joint replacement. I hope it gets rid of the sound.

if it is in the engine bay it probably is a belt that is alittle off they will stop squealing once you get up to speed, if it is from the suspension it could be a couple things.

UPDATE: I got the car back yesterday evening. The ball joint was replaced and the squeaking is gone!

For the future reference of others, this was a very high pitched squeak that was coming from the wheel well and could be heard only when the wheel was turned and it could be heard while the car was off, at idle, or at low speed.
