Sounds like a bad strut, I can't really think of anything else that would make it stick and stay in the down position! but if you do change them, its really easy, take the tire off, and pop the hood! you will see a big nut on top of the strut tower, take it off, and then there is also 2 nuts and bolts close to the caliper, take them out, and TADA! the strut should come out, then reverse the process putting the new ones on!
