New SVO owner here.
So I just put down the "hold" money for an '85 SVO. It's gonna be a daily driver for now... ~67k miles and engine and transmission rebuilt around 6 months ago. Other than the rebuild it's got a tubular k member and coil overs on the front end, rear suspension is stock...
I want to make a little more power with this car, but it's gonna be driven 45 miles to work and back each day. Any suggestions. Oh yeah, it needs a paint job like nobody's business! I'll have pics up this weekend when I take delivery.

It's really not much to look at. Nasty paint! When I get ready to paint it I'm gonna have to ask for opinions.

lets see.... 3" exhaust does wonders, atleast get a 3" downpipe. get a manual boost controller, tbird intercooler helps because it flows more, adjustable fuel pressure regulator from a 5.0, unplug the knock sensor, and maybe a 255lph walbro fuel pump. those are the cheap things you can do, check out turboford.net and svoca. stinger performance, boport racing heads (2.3 head guru does amazing work) and forced4 for parts. what else ya wanna know?? haha

Thanks for all that. I'm gonna take a minute and process it all! Remember this is a daily driver, so nothing too crazy with the power, or at least so long as it's reliable power! BTW, how much power can these motor handle with stock internals? What about the tranny and stock rearend?
Also how does a 3" exhaust sound on these cars? I don't want a loud annoying fart pipe rice sound... no offense...

don't spend any money on the t-bird intr cooler, you just want a 3" down tube, magna flow mufflers sound great on these cars

cars arent too loud with 3" exhaust. mine was decent with a dynomax ultraflo welded. since its a turbo car you only want a straight through muffler. those are all reliable mods. the short blocks can take alot actually. numerous people have been known to push 30psi on em. boport made 511rwhp on a stock 90k short block in his old car. the motors are all forged from the factory and are pretty stout. if youre looking for reliability, look into a bypass valve, itll take a ton of stress off the turbo.

This has a pretty big downpipe and open y pipe with a dump. I know you dont want to loud. Get a 3 inch down pipe to straight pipe, throw a magnaflow resonator on there and it will be quiet when you want it, and loud when you need it to be.

Meh, it's not like driving around in 300 at the wheels either. I'll be happy with that out of this car I think!

Well thats running a two step. So it has a pretty much explosion of fuel, and air going back up to the compressor wheel making the popping. Not really a back fire. So unless you have a msd 2 step or stand alone you wont have that lol.
Seriously, crank up the boost with any manual boost controller. big down pipe. Straight single exhaust with a resonator to quiet it up and give it a nice sound, go on ebay buy a intercooler and some piping. Then maybe some 3.73s. idk much about svos but that seems like a solid 14 sec car if not more.
