Need Help Picking A New Turbo Setup.
I recently purchased Enzo_Guy's 90, 88 turbo coupe swapped ranger and in the last 3 days that I've owned it I've had a few problems.
I'd say the biggest problem is that my turbo seal seems to have taken a crap on me and now it looks like a freight train going down the road. Smoke coming from the exhaust housing of the turbo and steadily out the tail pipe. So here's the things i need help with. I'll be upgrading to a cheap turbo, but I'm not too worried about it as I run a larger version of this brand on my Mustang. http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant...&Category_Code However I'm not sure what options I need. If someone could help that would be greatly appreciated. I'm unsure what to do for oil feed and drain lines, if there are any out there that you know if that would be great too. Also, I will need to run an external WG with this setup so that leaves me with 2 questions. What header, if any will alow me to put A/C back on this truck, or 2 is there an adaptor to use an external WG without changing the manifold? Also I'd be using this FMIC as well. http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant...ry_Code=IC30CO Although I don't know what piping kit to use. Any suggestions? I think that covers most of my questions. Not looking to make this super fast or anything, just semi relaiable and a bit of a fun DD. I've got my other vehicle to go fast. Lol. Thanks in advance. Jake. * |

For the turbo there, any supplier of oil feed and drain lines should work with that so long as the manifold is factory. Stinger-performance.com sells stock manifold turbo lines, and they also sell a header for external wastegates. I'm not sure how it would all fit in a Ranger engine bay though for the a/c. I know some people have put a/c back on their fox body cars with a stinger header but I don't know what they've done to get it to work. To build a waste gate on the cheap with the factory mainifolds I've seen people drill out the end of the factory manifold and tap it, or weld a flange to it, to fit a waste gate to that. That desing isn't the most efficient way of controlling boost, but has worked for others.
For the intercooler, I understand you might want something for a tighet budget, but IMO there is something to be said for a very efficient intercooler. Look through these pages on Stingers site, maybe it will give you some ideas of how to make the pipes work on your ranger. http://www.stinger-performance.com/universalparts.html That's the link to the universal parts page, there are other specific parts for fox body cars on just the stinger-performance home page. I've bought just about everything on my car from these guys and it's all been great quality and great customer service.

Thanks I'll look through it some more. I saw what looked like a knock off of the stinger manifold on eBay for 180 but I think that it might be worth the differance in quality to buy the stinger.

There are a lot of knockoffs of his header on Ebay, they almost alway crack at the flange because whoever makes them doesn't use strong materials and doesn't reinforce the primary tubes to the flange like Stinger does.

Thanks again for your help. Everything is ordered and I'll have the new setup installed by staurday I hope. Is there anything else I need so long as I keep it around 10-15 lbs of boost? I have a bov and I'm going to pick up my WG tonight. As far as I know it's just a stock supercoupe fuel pump and MAF.

It's been swapped to MAF? They come with a VAM from factory. A MAF swap will also have to include a chip to translate the incoming signal to something the factory computer can understand.
Either way, with 15psi of boost the stock fuel pump will probably keep up no issues. I'd get a Kirban adjustable fuel pressure regulator as well, it's a cheap way to help keep the engine on the rich and safer side after adding extra air with a larger turbo. You could also look into an A/F gauge to help keep an eye on things.

Sorry, I meant VAM. I'm still thinking OBD 2 with my mustang. Lol. I'll look into the FP regulator. I'll probably just run 10 for the time being to be safe. I know I need a WB. I'll pick one up when I get some extra cash. This turbo upgrade cost me 1000 bucks.
