5 Speed Swap.

Ok I found an SVO on craigslist that is an auto but needs a transmission, I was wondering how hard it would be to swap a T5 in(already have a 4cyl T5). I know I'll need a bellhousing, clutch, clutch pedal assy, clutch cabel, quadrant, shift fork, and cross member, but I am wondering if I will need an ECU from a 5spd car or not.

No you wont need the Manual ECU. The auto will work.

That is good news, I am assuming there won't be any check engine light or any other problems like there is in newer auto ECU's

I would verify it is a real SVO because all svos were 5 spds no automatics.

Could be a GT Turbo.

I don't know that I'd want anything to do with the carb'd version of the Turbo 2.3, though.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll probably pass on this car then if it isn't an actual SVO. I was willing to go the auto route if it was an SVO but if its not really and SVO I'd rather just find a regular 4cyl 5spd to DD.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll probably pass on this car then if it isn't an actual SVO.

83-84 Mustang GT turbos were produced in limited numbers, less than 3,700 total, making them far more rare than the SVO. They had most of the same hardware as the SVO under the hood, sans the inter-cooler and the and high-lift cam, which are common swaps for most turbo fords. The engines were rated at 145 HP, but easily upgrade-able. Obviously, there are some differences in the brakes and suspension as well, but nothing you couldn't upgrade with the same ease as the engine.

If this car truly is a turbo GT and it is clean and well priced, I would snap it up in a heartbeat.

Early GT's look nice with 18" wheels.

Only thing about the one you pictures is it has 5.0 emblems which would lead me to believe that it is a 5.0 originally or they did a 5.0 swap, that or they slapped 5.0 badges on a Turbo GT for some reason.

I think that picture was just to show an example of how the early 4-light cars can look when done up right, not to show a GT Turbo.
