Breather hose with CAI
I got a CAI off ebay and after reinstalling the breather hose that comes off the metal tube I was a little curious about how they work. The PCV line has a vacuum on it to let crank case gases out right? How is it that the breather does not have a vacuum on it as well? It is connected to the intake just like the PCV line is.
I suppose this isn't really a v6 specific thread, you may move it if you would like. |

pcv line coming from the cai has air that goes in it for the most part and then on the other side the vacuum is pullin the gases from that line and it acts in a big circle

but what causes the PCV line to be a vacuum and the breather line the opposite? Just the fact that the PCV line is on the other side of the throttle body?

cuz u have air running thru the cai and generally will have air go down in that line, but on other side like u said is on the other side of the tb and it is a big vacuum machine so it is sucking the air thru that line
the problem with this is that on boost applications this doesnt work so good because that vacuum system becomes a boost system when under boost which in turn actually blows air down in both lines.

The other line coming out of the intake tube isnt really a breather line. it goes to your IAC and thats what allows your engine to get air when the throttle body is shut. if thats what your asking

The tube I am looking at is going to the valve cover. Just before the throttle body.

What gums up the throttle body? EGR or Breather?
Is it the EGR or the breather hose making the throttle body dirty? I have seen some talk about breather mods but what does the mod do? Do you just replace the hose going to the intake tube with a breather filter?
