HP in relation to MPG

Why is it that most mods that you can do to an engine that result in increased horsepower will help your fuel economy but a larger engine producing more HP because of displacement will get worse fuel mileage.
Does it have something to do with how efficiently the engine is using the fuel?
Can someone please explain?

uhh... it takes more fuel to keep 8 pistons moving then 6... and gas mileage isnt always increased... look at cams...

honestly increasing displacement doesnt increase power a huge amount... it is more the RPM band and FI... 3.8-4.2 about 30 horse and 4.6-5.0 about the same... it just gives you more potential thats all...

uhh most HP will not increase fuel miliage ever if something says it does both its lieing. except maybe a small low low boost turbo but ione tuned for fuel miliage isnt giving that much power. Engines make power by burning fuel and air, add more fuel and air in even intervals so that all the oxygen is used up by the combustion you make more power to make power you need more fuel therefore you not gonna get gas miliage

does everyone need to start their post with uhhhhh? lol

I was just curious, some things just dont make sense to me. Like how does a turbo create more power if it is creating more backpressure at the same time. Where is the tradeoff?

that is 100% incorrect... here is a list from the top of my head...
1. intake
2. exhaust
3. computer
4. alum ds
5. alum flywheel

so it is about making it more efficient thats where you get both...

Thats what I though. That probably explains why you see more gains with the same mods on a v8 right?
If the v6 and v8 were both 100% efficient they only difference in fuel mileage should be the added weight from the V8 right? sure it uses more fuel with 8 cyliders but it also creates more power.
