powerpack and S/C engine damage?

how can a sc that adds 90hp tear up a engine and a power pack that adds 90hp not destroy an engine??

or would both wreck my car?

It all has to due with tuning and your engine's internals limits.

If you engine is tuned well your relativelty weak stock internals can handle either, but probably wont be all that great for both together, but s/c i def would almost never recomend for most stock internals, though it is OK to do at low psi. Stock internals for a pp, is fine. For an optimized set up for power and a safety, having the proper internals for compression ratio and strength is necessary.

If you are refering to why a s/c is harder on your car than a pp, then ill tell you that also. s/c is harder on an engine because forced induction increases the likely hood of knocking (exploding of fuel rather than burning, a bad thing, it tears stuff up) where as making an engine merely breath better mainly increases the stress on the engine from just making the internals have to deal with a bit more power.

so if i dont and never will have the cash to put forged internals in you'd recomend power packs?
My car has 47K on it(its a 04) so you think it'll hold for another 50K with powwer packs?(hopefully more.....)

im putting in a vortech s/c at about 5-7psi and my engine will handle it fine.....all you need to do is buy a tuner and a fuel pump that would handle more horsepower and you should be alright....and then later on when you can afford more go and work on a better rear and forged internals....

lol im at 97k miles and had my procharger on since 92k miles and i can tell my engine doesnt doesnt like it...i took it off the road till spring...im putting gt take offs this christmas with flowmaster 40s so it will breath alot better....i recommend to keep it n/a (naturally aspirated) for as long as u dont build up ur engine to take the s/c. go with the power pack. my car is off the road till i build up the engine... trust me been there done that

At that low mileage you would be fine running a low psi s/c. As you got to around 85-90k miles you would probably need to build up the internals, but running 7 psi intercooled with a good tune you would be fine till about 120k miles probably.

LOL true. YOu probably would be better off with the PP if you didn't want to upgrade your engine.

7 psi is a lot of boost for our engines, and since your bottem end is stock...if you have high mileage I think I would wait. Build up your bottom end, and then go with the s/c

if so then just do what cricket said

i was gonna get turbo then build the engine. but thats pointless wat if i blow or hurt the engine...its gonna hurt my wallet and something might happen to the new turbo i get....in your case ur s/c

build the internals then you'll know your good for a s/c
