transmission fluid change question
hey guys i called the ford dealership to get my tranny serviced and they have two options. i can get it "flushed" (where they have a special device that flushes it out) or i can get the regular drain and refill. one of the service rep guys said that the flush can damage ur tranny so you see if it is right for ur car. last time i got mine serviced i did the flush but what do u guys recommend? btw i do the tranny service every 20k miles or so.

sorry i should have stated earlier. i have an auto, its tuned, and i drive it pretty hard. i am always chirping the tires (dunno if that effects the tranny much but sounds like it should)

as long as the trans fluid is not black it will be ok. never flush or drain trans fluid when it is black. since not to long after that the trans will go out.

If the 2004 model still has a drain plug for the torque converter it is possible to change most of the fluid by just a drain and refill. If not I would have it changed using the machine, which also effectively replaces most of the fluid. Changing just the fluid in the transmission by removing the pan replaces less than half of the fluid and isn't effective.

as long as you dont go over 75k its ok to flush it, make sure they do the filter to
i do my tranny every 30k along wiht my rear end, even though i cant seem to go longer then 20k without blowing the crap 7.5 up

Go with the flush. Better to get all new trans fluid then mostly new. If you get it flushed get it done at ford and ask for a master tech to flush it. That way if something happens to the trans it's because of ford (hopefully).

I agree with stang tech,If the fluids real nasty dont use the machine.Ive seen them make autos slip when they were flushed after being really dirty. there is no mileage limit that will determine if you should use the flush machine it just depends on if the fluid was somewhat maintained.

Learn GrammarPlease learn how to spell. Sorry, I just had to do it. ![]() Seriosuly though, in a world of LMAO's, OMG's, TTIWWP's, IMO's, etc., I would prefer crappy spelling anyday. At least people can see what he is attempting to say rather than having to look up every other acronym on google to make sense of a sentence. interesting im about to get mine flushed this week. I have about 48k miles on my v6 and have it tuned to 15% shift firmness. Im kinda worried so I figure I better get it flushed asap so I dont blow anything. $180 for the service but I think its worth it in the long run. Either 180 now or 1800 later.
