intake removal

ok so i was lookin at my intake today and it doesnt look too hard to remove cuz i wanna get it ported and polished. so i talked to dad about it and he said i was crazy and i shouldnt mess with it cuz u never know what youll mess up. so i was wonderin, how hard is the removal? do you hafta be like really technical to do it or what? also will i hafta replace a gasket if i take it off? and what is a general price for a p&p job? i think thats the one price im actually in the dark on lol.

i've removed mine 3 times and never messed. and that is upper and lower intake. im 17 years old. it was pretty easy to do. port and polish is pretty expensive not sure on the actual price. i did my own port and polish. and i didn't do it like hardcore port. more just smoothing things out and matching the gaskets.

did you correctly torque the screws back with a torque gun? or just screwed them back in?

whats a torque gun??its a torque wrench.you dont screw in bolts you tighten them.If
its your first time doing it you may want to take pictures so you remember where everything goes since its going to be apart a while.take all your bolts and put them in ziploc bags.you will need new gaskets.get all your torque specs so there is no question
on if the bolts are tight enough.I myself dont know the going rate of P&P .Im sure its expensive though.IMO you should do all your bolt ons first before tearing into your engine
you arent gonna add much HP doing a P&P thats why you should save it til later on

its real easy. just remove the air intake, the throttle body, the iac, vacuum lines and 12 bolts from the upper intake. if you wanna remove the lower too than you gotta remove the egr, fuel rail etc. the lowers slightly more of a pain to get off. youll need a new intake gasket, iac gasket and throttle body gasket

psh torque wrench
my intake manifold has been taken off probably more then some of you guys drive your car. i used a torque wrench once and never used it again
ive re-used the supposed non-reusable gaskets as well
although if you've NEVER taken it off i highly recommend against it. i re-used mine over 500mile periods about.

then again if your not to safe feeling about the intake i wouldnt use your hand
i know the torque sequence and torque specs and i used a short stubby tool for the tightening 1 arm and tighten til i feel its tight enough.
but ive widely torqued many many things, i feel safe torquing anything under 40ft lbs by hand.
the only thing i grab a torque wrench for is,
rocker arms,
ANYTHING AT ALL in a short block of a motor
ANY cylinder head i torque
basically any long block work

that besides the point the upper intake is beyond easy to remove and ive done it in baout 10min a few times

also i port and polish if your interested and ive ported these upper intakes a dozen times and im familiar with them

CRT RACING PERFORMANCE | is my site check out the prices and pictures if your interested

Check that out^^ has the sequence you need...

and you don't need a torque wrench, just tighten them on good and tight... no need to measure

umm, he is referring to a V6 engine bud, this is the V6 section. The difference in the split port and single port intakes is very large. porting a single port out as much as possible is going to be great for him, if they are split ports, he will still see results as well.

but again these are V6 engines.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to port and polish the heads as well as
the manifolds?

dead simple. you'll need maybe 3 gaskets depending what you all take off. the IAC, Throttle body and Upper manifold to lower gasket. if your bored go to VAPauto.com for an intake spacer while your at it. they give you the upper to lower gaskets and instructions in colour on how to take it all apart

i pulled all three of those pieces off and have reused the gaskets without a problem.
