4:10's for a V6

What is required and how much money approx to put in gears without getting a larger rearend but still getting a possitrack? I want both wheels to spin but dont want to replace the whole rearend.

They make posi trac replacement 7.5's, and of course 4.10's for the 7.5" rear. Make sure though that 4.10's is right for you by determining what RPM's you can live with on the highway.

since you are looking at t-lock and 4.10's i am assuming you have a 4r70w? (auto)

you will spend about the same or a little less hitting up a junkyard and taking a complete rear (including axles and brakes) from a gt. then you have t-lok and a rear and you just need the gears.

but a posi unit from eaton or auburn is about 250, the gears from FRPP are about 175-200, and the misc. install stuff is about 100, and installation itself (if you pay someone else) is about 200. so all in all for building the 7.5" rear, you will be forking over about 500 bucks, then you need the xcal 2 or equivalent to correct the computer for the gears. thats another 400. so around 1000 total and you are all said and done with a new detail job too.

ill be getting an 8.8" rear just because my future plans for the car will exceede the 7.5"'s durability

FWIW... I checked once with someone at a local stealership and you could get a brand new 8.8 FRPP rear w/3.73 gears for around $875, but i think that was with employee discount.

Well, what sort of gear ratio is good for everyday driving, i live in a country town with not to much traffic. I just new alot of people put 4.10's in a V6. As to getting a all new rearend out of a GT, GT's dont come stock with a posi so both wheels spin so dont u need a posi or whatever it takes to make the both of them spin. I dont know much about gears and stuff so i probubly sound sorta stupid. But yea it dosent matter to me i just want both of the wheels to spin and have a gear ratio that brings more power to the ground!

So a stock GT's back two tires both spin? I thought they didnt because on this show that i saw on tv the said they didnt so thats why i though putting in a Gt rearend would be pointless. Well i guess the best thing to do is to get a GT rearend. But what gears are good for a V6 but still are good for a DD?

if you buy a rear end from a gt with the 8.8" rear, it will most likely have a t-lok (posi unit) from the factory. just buy an 8.8" rear and the 4.10:1 r/p gears for it and you will have both tires spinning.

Another thought did you know the ranger rear end gears and posi will fit in a V6 mustang(7.5 same rear end)? The only thing you need is the cross pin for the posi. Rangers come with 3.73's but you could snag a posi out of one from the junkyard cheap and just get the gears.

Well I'm about to install an 8.8 in my 1995 3.8L Mustang.
I bought a used 8.8 with 3.73 richmond gears and a tracloc.
The gears where in good shape but the the rearend required a rebuild.
I replaced all the bearings and seals. I also rebuilt the tracloc with upgraded carbon clutches.
A friend of mine that works at a local Ford dealership helped me out.
I spent $400 dollars total.

$175 8.8 Rearend with 3.73 and tracloc
$125 8.8 Rearend rebuild kit
$100 Tracloc Carbon rebuild, 4oz friction modifier, 2quarts 75W - 140 synthetic
