3.8 into an 87LX
I Have an 87lx that i want to but together for my daughters first car but do not want to give her a 5.0 but the 2.3 is just not enough to move one of these cars. i wnat to find a sn95 car that is wrecked to get everything from. I have found a couple cars that have had this done but i am looking for people to talk to that have done this because i have a couple questions. I know this is not the most common swap but its what i want to do. Anybody have any info? Thanks

well if you insist. As long as you want a car with no wiring, motor, trans or interior. I was given a clean body that was striped and repainted, but never put back together. It was a 4cyl and was to be converted to a 5.0 but somewhere down the road someone gave up on that idea, so since i have nothing to start with i can go any direction because i will have to put it all in there anyway

Or you could forget that idea... buy your daughter a newer and nicer model... honestly. Girls do NOT look at the fox bodies as "pretty" at all, and the money you'll be spending on the swap could be put toward something she'd like and feel good about driving.
Common sense lol.

Not all girls dislike the fox. I have 4 cars right now and she baddly wants the 87 that plan to give her. She doesnt care for the pretty, just the bad ass looking cars. I gave her the option of a 94+ and she chose the 87. Besides i find wrecked v6s all the time for $500-$600, i already have the 87 with fresh paint that she wants, so there is no real money invloved. If it what she wants then why not. To make everything better i like doing conversions. I have a 94 f150 that came with 300 6cyl and swaped it to a first gen Lightning drivetrain, and my 92 has had a 4cyl, a 302, a 347, and is now getting a 351.

who the hell are y'all to tell him not do that wand to tell him what he wants.
OP, the motor mounts should line up, the bell house might be iffy, the 3.8 is OBD2 but there are after market places making carb swaps for it so you can consider that but that adds to the price tag significantly. everything else should drop in and go smoothly though. Best of luck. oh and something fun you can try, SN95 interior into the fox. I don't know how many people have tried that one, but could get interesting.

the foxes look sick with the sn95 interior swap. if you find a good donor id swap the motor and the interior...IMO.post pics of the build too once you decide. everyone loves pictures haha

Not in 87. They stoped in 86 i think and it was CFI anyway. I want the obd2 and no carbs. I will use everything form the donor car. It wont be any different that the guys that put a 4.6 in a fox. Motor, trans, wiring, fuel lines, rearend and convert the front to 5 lug and most likly do the interior. I was hoping that some one here might have known of a car that this has been done to already just to get some insight. OH WELL. I will post pics as i start but it will not be till next year.(2010) Right now i have my 351 swap going on and as soon as that is done i have to rebuild my 347 to drop into my wifes car. I will just have to do it and deal with any problems that come up, if any. It should be a direct drop in. |

Not needed right away. She has 3 years before she can drive, but they grow up so fast i figured i better start getting stuf together now because it will be time to go for that driving test sooner than i want. When hers is done then i have a son that is two years behind her.

I know someone with a 3.8 tbird engine if your interested? IT has low miles. Actually everything from the t bird is usable. Harness computer the whole car is just sitting waiting for someone to pick it up I thought about putting it in a foxbody but never felt like fussing with it.

Yeah, it's definitely been done. Super Six Motorsports has a split port (99-04) 3.8L a Fox. It went 11's N/A.
I have a feeling that's a little more than you're looking to do, but as far as questions you might have, they may be able to help you out.

Not going to spend much at all. I already have the 87 and i sell auto parts so i have several good friends in the towing and recovery bussiness that are on the look out for a donar car. I want a totaled but running car and i should be able to pick that up cheap once he files for the salvage title. The only thing i am worried about is possibly the PATS if the donar is too new and if i decide to keep the fox dash. I really want it to look stock but i like the late model dash too. But then i run into the fact that there is no tach for a 6cyl for the 87-93 dash. I dont want to have to deal with the interior door handlels for the late model dash but i could try to find doors for a 79-81. They had the handle down low. Its these kinds of things i am looking for.
