Generic CAI???
Some of you know I just joined and am learning. First mod is K&N filter. Will add cai also immediately. Not expecting much, if anything, from cai except looks...soooo:
There are PLENTY of el cheapo cai's all over the net (especially eBay). Any benefit to installing a brand name vs generic? Obviously I would like to install the K&N tube to keep everything matched as I go, but I wouldn't expect anything exceptional from K&N or any other brand as the cai is mostly a good "look". And, as for warranty, I can buy probably 5 generics for the price of 1 name brand...that eats up a good amount of time...lol So, when you guys look under the hood...do you look for the "part" or the "name"? And with cai, does it even matter at all? Thanks ![]() Beginning mod plan: K&N filter, cai, long headers, new exhaust (undecided on type), 4:10 gears, posi trac, and a little interior decor. OH: anyone willing to explain the pros/cons of long headers vs shorty headers? |

any CAI would work the same.. generic or name brand. it is only larger tubes to allow more air flow to your engine with a new air filter. it takes the cold air from the fenderwell and shoots it into your engine. ebay is a good place to get cheap CAIs. as for the headers long tubes will improve your exhaust flow more than shorties, therefore giving more power. if you are planning to supercharge your stang later then they are a must. shorties work best with turbos.. so if you want to go the turbo route later then get shorties

if you plan on turbo don't even bother getting different headers since most kits come with them. You have to use shorty headers with turbo unless if you fab up a rear mount turbo system. Why shorties are a neccessary? Because with a turbo setup you have to take your headers and invert them. So basically you swapped side and turned your headers upside down to get the turbo to fit.

the only difference between CAI is disputable. plastic vs aluminum. plastic doesnt transfer heat as well as metal. this is a known fact. the friction of the air passing through the metal will cause it to heat up more so then the plastic. will you notice a difference? no. just good to know that theyre not all the same.

yea but we all have a metal upper intake manifold so that whole less heat thing is completely thrown out once it hits the upper intake manifold. So really your fubar no matter how you prepare it.
