Need some advice on a Tuner

I got some extra cash, and I belive I want a Tuner... I was looking at this:

SCT SF3 Power Flash Mustang Strategy Tuner (96-09) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

I mainly want it to adjust shift points on my transmission and octane tunes since I have an automatic. Would this been a good mod, or should I get something else for around the same price? Any info would be great.

tuner is a good start to your car, and along with gears can really wake our boats up.

not to mention, the tuner can support most of the mods you decide to do in the future, adding a bit to what is already gained with the new parts.

Whats wrong with the Sniper or Diablo ? Both are good tuners , the Diablo has a slight disadvantage since they took away the rear o2 disable function from them , but the Sniper has more user adjustable settings than any other tuner out there .......

Don't worry its just ignorance..... IMO for a beginner, only doing bolt-ons a Diablosport would be the better choice. It gives you many more functions out of the box and always comes preloaded with tunes. The SCT is preferred by the tuners and most recommended when adding a power adder but don't think its going to be as easy as pulling it out of the box and having all of the parameters that are available on Diablos.
FYI I've been running Diablosport's canned pulley tune for over a year now without the first issue.

I hate diablo, its just old technology and has been for awhile, they are way behind on their research, SCT has way more tuning shops out, and is overall one of the best and most researched flash tuning software around. Sniper is good and is a great learning tool for people wanting to get into tuning but SCT can just be plug and play if you want it too

I would rather let someone who knows what they are doing tune my car. I don't mess with that. I will pay money to strap it on the rollers and have it tuned. User adjustable settings isn't always better or good.

I say go with the SCT xcal3. I have one, and love it.

you say go with one because you have one , thats like saying you should buy Nike because thats what shoe I wear , I believe you should wear whatever fits you better , user adjustable settings are always better for someone that wants flexibility in a product , you will pay money to strap it on a dyno ? well what good does that do someone that cant afford that or doesnt have a dyno anywhere near them ........alot of guys know how to change timing and fuel to make power but dont have a dyno near them or have any tuners near them , for them Sniper would be the better choice of the 3 ..........

for the people that dont even know what a tuner does , they read the stock file off the computer back it up for safe keeping to put back to stock if needed , then they modify the timing and fuel settings in the computer for better performance (add timing and lean out the fuel slightly ) and then load the new information back to the computer .......they all do the samething and if you dynoed all 3 back to back on same car , same day same dyno , I doubt you would see hardly any difference in the actual results of any of the canned tunes .....

+1
A canned tune will work just fine on a bolt-on GT or v6. When you start playing with boost or cams, anything drastic the story changes. IMO the only thing SCT has over anyone are their relationships with tuners and up until last year their dataloging software. Diablosport has been a superior product out of the box since day one and now has great datalogging software. When it comes time for me to get a custom tune written I will be using a SCT, only because the local tuners are more familiar with it. I can't comment on Sniper because I haven't used it yet.
So like I said if you not going crazy with the car and its only going to be recieving bolt-ons, SCT would not be my first choice.

SCT was my preference because, well, most of the tuners out where i was stationed used SCT and there was little in the way of support for anything else.
