Rotor replacement?
About a week ago my brakes started making a metal scraping sound. When I looked at them the passenger side rotors are scraped pretty badly.
![]() ![]() The rotors on the driver side are fine, but all the break pads are getting replaced for sure. Should I replace the rotors or have them turned? Either way will I need to do the same thing on both sides or can I just do one side? |

I'm assuming you just need the front brakes.
I would take the rotors to a machine shop and see if they can be machined or replace them with new and put in new pads. If the one worn rotor can't be machined but the other is good, you could replace the bad one with a new one and have both of them machined to the same thickness. The easiest way to do the job is to loosen and remove the caliper bolts, and suspend the calipers out of the way, then unbolt the brackets. To reassemble it, put the rotors and brackets back in and install the pads, then compress the caliper pistons and reinstall them. Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads against the rotors. |

well I just spent my Saturday replacing all 4 rotors and pads. Went pretty well for my first brake job. Even gave my wheels the good cleaning they've been needing.
