My 3.8 V6 clicks?

When i turn on my a/c or my defog/defrost, my car makes a loud clicking noise. im thinking its the radiator fan because when i turn the car off the noise slows down to a stop instead of instantly turning off. what are your opinions?

My old p/u truck does the same thing when it's cold out. It is the A/C compressor on mine. I don't know what causes it, but it doesn't do it after it has run for a few min. & never does it in warm weather.
Yes my A/C works great. In case you were wondering.

i took it to a friend and he felt the pipe/hose thing on the compressor and it was still cold, so he said it wasnt it. but today i took my fan off and there was a part of it that was cracked in half and sticking out so i would guess that it was hitting up against the fans case. and if it were the a/c compressor it shouldnt come on when defog/defrost is on right?

and it only makes the noise while the fan is spinning though, so i think it would make sense that its the fan. and when the a/c or defog/defrost is on once the fan stops the noise stops, even if the a/c or defog/defrost is still running. and the outside temp doesnt affect it at all, it always does it.

the a/c compressor will run when run with the defrost is on as long as the temp is above 50* it says so in your owner's manual. i would check the fan and fan shroud for anything that could cause that noise

temperature has no effect on this noise though. it has made it in the lows 20s all the way up to the low 80s so far.

and sorry about placing this in the wrong section...i figured engine problems could go in general engine tech or in the specific section for your car.

im really bad at placing things in the right section

is it condensation leaking onto your hot manifold? might sound stupid, but that question reminds me of a similar question asked awhile back in which the case was condenstion leaking onto the hot manifold.
