White-Face gauges?

If the gauges are diy, how difficult is it to recalibrate the needles? I don't particularly like the white, but it seems all the rave so may consider it. But, unlike just trimming out the stock gauges with a little chrome or color insert, with actual gauge exchange, I would assume it may be necessary to recalibrate the needle positions.

How difficult is exchanging the gauges in your own backyard? It's my understanding that the plastic cover is EASILY damaged when trying to remove it to get to the "insides".

Thanks

My guages came on my car. White face reverse glow. You don't have to recalibrate your speedo to do this. What you have to remember is where the needles were pointing. This is very important to remember that. It might be a good idea to make small marks with tape and then when you have the needles going on or on, remove the tape so they are in the same position as before.

I'm not real fond of the white gauges actually. I'd almost rather have a billet insert nicely setting off the stock gauges. Actually, if I changed actual gauges, I would take a good photo of needle position.

But, from reading it seems it's very difficult to get the assembly itself apart without a good risk of breakage as the gauge assembly and the plastic cover are kind of melted/welded together.

If you don't like them, don't get them. Just do those inserts if you like, also don't have to worry about needle position then don't worry about it. Do what your comfortable with doing.

what year is your car? cause the plastic cover is just a cople torque screws and a pin so you can poke the tab on the lights knobs to come off that spretty much the hardest part for all 99-04

I like the white gauges personally, but its whatever you like. Check out these instructions on installing them, it doesn't seem too tough:

ok, I had seen these instructions somewhere before and near the end is where they talk about "if" you need to remove the old faces...based on others' experience, if you pry with a putty knife or something similar, you're gonna break it! It's really meshed together strong.

So, for all of you that HAVE installed your white gauges, did they fit right over the needle mounts? Were they thin enough to just place over the stock bezel? And, if so, which white face gauges did you purchase and where?

I do NOT want to completely disassemble the gauge pod, so just overlaying would be much simpler, but, as the article mentions, you need thin overlays and ones that fit right over the needle mounts.

Where do you purchase this type? The gauges are for sale all over the place, but specifically, where can you buy to be sure they are thin enough and proper needle mount fit?

Thanks

I'm still thinking on it...since my car is white the gauges would fit right in. We'll see. If I do install them though, I definitely want ones that will slide right in with little effort.

Thanks

Im border line on the white gauge thing, I do however think it would look pretty good on a white car. I have silver so I personally wouldnt do it. But you have a pretty good color that you can basically do almost whatever you want...

I have been tearing myself up about what color to do with my car Cause I have this ugly colored blue MUSTANG sticker on my back bumper, ya know on the inserts, and ewwwwwy..

I think Im going to go with a new black sticker there and see how I like it. I know it will look good because its a silver car so black would go great, but I wanted to be different not just another mustang, but I give up... Not too many options without being too different, like hot pink lmao.. that wouldnt happen

just heat up the stickers with a blow dryer and peel them off then maybe use a bit of water too.

Hot Pink is a FINE color Yeppers, a white car does give me lots of options. I shopped long and hard deciding on a car...made up my mind on a Mustang and drove a few at the dealership. I almost changed my mind...lol The 3 I test drove felt like riding in a dogsled and were different colors...silver, red, yellow. I wasn't impressed that day and started looking at some other kinds of cars.

Then, I walked back into the same dealership as before and saw this white stang sitting there that I hadn't seen. I asked them where it came from and they told me it had been on display at the Mall for 2 weeks...lol I drove it, and bought it that day...it had 6 miles on it.

I have always hated a white car. But, I must say, that in these 4+ years, I LOVE my car still.

And...because of the white color, the white gauges might look much better than I imagine with all the black interior surrounding them. Just not sure if I'll try installing them myself...I probably will...lol Then I'll call someone to fix my mess!

LOL.. Actually if its a white car with black interior then hell yeah i would think it would look really good...

i have black and gray interior...

Hot Pink is a good color just not so sure it would look to good on the back of my car. Might get too much shit for it lol....

Dont want people to think I am too girly and dont know shit about cars lmao....

Because for some reason that seems to be a huge stereo type until they get me going on a conversation.. then they are like hmm, ok, I will shut my mouth now
Its all good. But I might just stick with the black for safety lol

ok i did my guages and i got them off ebay for like 20 all together. they have like 100 colors and look so nice.

first remove the instrument cluster, not to hard just a few bolts and i belive 3 connectors in the back. then take off the plastic cover to show the stock guages. the new ones came in 3 sections and the one for the tach and spendo layed right ontop of the stock ones. unfotunately it was a lil thick so that the needles rubbed on it so i cut around the holes to make it just a lil bigger and u cant see around it and works fine. btw u can take the needles off with a fork!!! it works perfect and its highly recomeneded. the speed and tach naturally go back to 0 so if u touch um its fine.

the others were the same process for the gas and w/e and the temp and battery. then i put the controller on my steering column with the 2x stick tape. worked nice and zip tied the inverter thing to a metal stud behind the guages. then put it back together and if u want, u can roll some of the miles back while ur there.... lol j/k NONE of us would ever do that...

So, the commonly found eBay ones are a bit thick...I wondered about that...there are many offered there giving a pretty big choice! Do you mean you made the holes bigger around the needle mounts? And what "inverter" did you twist tie?

What I read about the needles is that VERY often, once everything is assembled and hooked up, the tach will read 1000 and the speedo is 10 mph. I'd like to get around the hassle of recal. the speedo...the rest of the needles you can just move.

Glad to hear your needles all went back right...that's a help. I'll keep reading.

Anyone else installed "other" gauges (white or otherwise) and had any problems with the needles?

Thanks

There's also a bit of a "cheat" gauge on eBay...it's just stickers/decal. Looks fine, but I would think applying them (via squeegie, etc.) could lead to potential damage, huh?

well u can cut to hole a lil larger in the guages and they will fit around the needle so that u dont even have to take them off. thats what i did for some of them. the transformer/inverter thinger is for the backlighting. they are really nice and i would deff suggest them
