Gas Pedal Slack?

Hi,
Just installed bullit pedals this afternoon when I noticed there was more slack in the gas pedal than I thought. I would like to take up just a little of this slack, not all of it. Maybe about half.

Any info on adjusting the slack with the gas cable?

Thanks

yeah just put a spacer up there . lean back under and take a look how the mechinism works when you pull it forward there should be a cable attatched. now if you put a spacer on it like a piece of plastic tubing or such i just used a piece of metal and clamped it down two secs i'll get you pic

ok, thanks...I was hoping it would sound simple...lol Will taking up some of the slack make any differences...especially with the gears shifting in the car? I've read that the computer "learns" the driver's "style" of driving and taking up too much slack could confuse the computer. This was just a net article so don't know if it's even relevant.

nope nothign it;s just a wire thats connected to the throttle body valve thinger that lets air in.. more or less your pedal becomes very touchy and feels like you have more torque also it might open up a few hp if the valve never did open all the way cause the pedal hit the floor but in a technical sense i don;t think it added anything it just feels nicer amd the computer adjusting.. its just gona adjust for the more airflow coming in faster thats all so just sending more gas into the engine.

Just what I needed to know...thanks very much. Just doing it mostly for looks, would like the pedals a little more even. Just didn't want to mess something up I didn't know about

the gas pedal play is normal
adjusting it might just result in breaking the cable if you slam on it when racing

before you go adjusting this slack, have someone press the pedal to the floor and hold it. Now look at the throttle body plate and see how much slack is present there. Then you can adjust the pedal like shown above (I use zip-ties) to make the throttle body wide open when the pedal is fully depressed. You do not want the pedal inside to still have travel if the throttle body linkage is on it's stops.

Explain this please My goal at the moment is NOT to attain any more speed or fast mph's. I mainly just want to bring the pedal up just a bit so as not to be so uneven with the brake pedal. I'm doing it only for looks at this time (might be some other reasons later). SO....if I take up only some of the slack, for appearance sake, it could be problematic???

Thanks

if the throttle body has no travel left but the pedal still has travel then yes, it can cause issues.

yup...if you slam the pedal after switchin gears like me or on the start...good chance you'll break that...and it'll cost you
i adjusted mine the other day cuz i had to. its a pretty damm tight space to do the work in

At the moment, my car is totally stock...will only be adding cai this week. Other parts will be a little later. Are there varying amounts of slack at the throttle body in stock cars? I kinda doubt that if I floor it as it is that I would be using all of the cable, dunno.

For anyone who HAS taken the slack out, any problems? Have you "run out of cable"? Maybe I should just wait...lol Actually, I've never "stomped" the pedal at take off...there's not much point in it since it's stock...lol So far, I've just taken on a challenge or two around the 100+ mph range, not at the start. Got to 118 on the freeway, that's about it. Saw my mom's hair standing straight up and slowed down...lol

Just don't like the look of that gas pedal being almost invisible!!!

Thanks

Dude. I just did it to mine this afternoon. Took 20 minutes, pain in the ass at first, no working room. It's easy though, holy crap is it nice.

Man! It's so simply amazing! I love it. God. I didn't even know WOT on my car until now. It's a must.

Look here, let me simplify.

Go into your car, drivers side and look at the gas pedal okay? Now look to the top... (You'll need a flash light, it's a harsh angle too) Now... push the pedal to the floor with your hand? See all that slack wire hangin there? Now, your goal is to reduce it.

So find a metal spacer, tie, anything that will be about an inch wide. You want to place it between the end spacer and the pedal front (the part closer to you).

Make sure it's something you can bend firmly in place.

Now... let the pedal go, get in the car and enjoy because it's like jesus... except better.

Yeah. it really is a rough spot to get into. Totally worth it though, because...

For the first time today, I think I hit and held WOT on the highway.

Well, I don't expect any gains. As I said, just looking for a better appearance than that gas pedal HIDING behind the brake pedal. I just installed new pedals so I know where everything is located. Stupid instructions said to "cut the bolt" holding the stock pedal on the assembly...yeah, right. I just took the whole gas pedal assembly OUT of my car, went inside, took a punch and beat out the little pin, stuck the new pedal on and drove the pin back through. There would have been NO way of cutting that pin in that tight space and why would any instructions say to do that...plain dumb. One cable and two bolts and nothing is cut or messed up!!!!

But, rather than having slack when I push my gas pedal to the floor, it's the other way around...the slack is when I pull the pedal UP, towards the seat...this is the slack I will be taking up so that the pedal will sit higher. Just don't want to cause any other problems elsewhere that might cause the cable to break.

Thanks
