96 Auto, Is this a good deal?
Hey guys, I use to be on here alot back when I had the username MustangGT00. I have the yellow S/C from NC and the gray from NJ. Both bought from MM members. Anyway, account dissapeared, I'm back.
So my girlfriend wants to buy a used mustang, no point in stopping her, but she's looking on a thin budget, a friend of her's brother has a used 96 for 2k. It's got 150,000 miles all stock everything. It looks like it was taken care of ok. Now, I am not sure, I don't like the idea of that car, but her budget is 2-3k. What are your thoughts? Bad deal, good deal? The transmission, if cared for well ... ? All mine are manuals, I don't know the auto tranny.... |

Well with that milege, it might run, but for how much longer, who knows. Do a compression test and such and just test the basic maintanance on the car.

I bought my whip for 2k with few mods and 90k miles ... he was asking 3k but i offered him cash.. honestly you can find a decent mustang for 2-3k with less than 150k miles... If I were you id look for a lower milage stang but just my opinion. anyways best of luck

I think the transmissions hold up pretty well as long as it has been maintained.
The pre 99 engines had head gasket problems as others have mentioned and had significantly less power than the 99+. |

the only problem I see is the head gaskets- check the freeze plugs to see if they've been done yet- and also the tranny. if you're getting it from somebody who didn't flush it regularly, it might shift a bit soft, especially when you first go into drive.
