V6 Search. Help?
Hello to all you 6ers.
I have a question for all of you which is more of a opinion than factual. Once I meet some pre-determined criteria, I'll be able to buy a V6 Mustang (reasonably priced). Now, I'm 16, and already have a Ford Taurus as my daily driver. My mustang will NOT go to school and will be in a garage except on weekends. (Some kid had a Camaro @ school, and it got keyed.) I'm also a complete beginner on mods / anything mechanical, but am steadfast in learning. So, anyways, enough rambling on my part. What year / model of a Mustang should I get? |

that really depends on how much you have to spend...
if you could afford the 2005+ v6s, they are more reactive to mods, and of course they are faster stock in comparison to the 2004- 3.8s however, i think that the 2005+ v6s need to be tuned after some mods are placed on, while the 2004- v6s dont need to be tuned when those same mods are put on, but i dont know too much about the 2005+ 4.0s

If you want a V6, the new edge (99-04) will have more hp because they are split port intake instead of the single port in the sn95 (95-98). But if you can get an 05+ they come with the 4.0 V6. (I don't remember what the HP numbers are on those). But I believe the new edge have about 193bhp, which is around 160 to the wheels, and the sn95's have about 40hp less.... correct me if I'm wrong guys.
It really up to you, but I personally love my mustang, which is an '03. But I really like the 05+ Stangs also. But I also think the sn95's look nice =) If you want power, and are going to mod, but are sticking with a V6, I suggest the 05+ because of the 4.0 if you can afford it. If not, then go with a 99-04 =) Edit: The sn95 and new edge mustangs have the 3.8 V6 in them.

ya tiger youre right, the split port intake gave the 99-04 40hp over the 96-98 (the 94-95 haev 45hp less, but i dont think thats from the split port). the 4.0s have 210 hp and 240 tq.
the new edges (99-04) have 190hp up until 2002, where they got 193hp.

The split port is the reason for the 40+hp gain in the new edge but Ford also added slick piston coatings, less friction. You can find a lot of new edge v6s with low miles, in great condition for a reasonable price.

Hah, just what I expected. Info that makes sense
.I'll probably get a 'Stang from the 95-04 era. And if so, I'll lean towards the New Edge. I really appreciate it, guys. Thanks. |

dont get a pre99. go ahead and get the 99-04, same engine just with the split port upgrade and a better looking body IMO.

Texas, for the most part, is fairly flat with "decent" streets, haha. Granted 45 degree angles will become my new best friend, I am totally ok with that, haha.

Hope you find the stang you want soon.
As for mods, look around the threads, make a little research and see what some people like and what others don't and form your judgment on what you feel you want done on your car. Also, you wanna make sure you have a budget or some sort that way you could have a pretty decent idea what you could play with and what you can get. I personally would go after a few performance mods over visual mods first. a good initial read for modding suggestions would be reading this thread Look Here Before Asking About Mods and we encourage you to use the search feature first if you have any questions about anything but people here will be more than willing to provide you with help. Enjoy your stay at MM
