All projectors that come from the factory (which are the only legal ones) come in projector housings. HIDs should ALWAYS be put in projectors.

The beam pattern is only going to be correct if the projectors are designed for HIDs from the start. Usually the HID lights in non-HID housings will send a lot of the extra light into places where it won't help you and could even cause more problems (like into the sky or into oncoming drivers' eyes).

You'll need the HID ballast as well. If you buy a plug and play kit then it'll come with everything you need.

So then does that little disclaimer really mean "Do not use HID BULBS" or "do not use HID KITS??"

They just say that for legal reasons. I have friends with HIDs in headlights that say not for HID kits and they work fine (not as good as quality projectors, but better than reflective housings.

My only guess would be maybe the bulb would get too hot for the housing? But thats a shot in the dark

you will melt your projectors, you need special ones with a deeper lens, otherwise you will melt them, an HID bulb is longer than a standard halogen, while a HID bulb does burn cooler it sits too close to the lens on projectors and will either melt them or just not fit in the housing
HIDS also dont have to be in projectors as long as your cutoff is made right

or make of the lights, as long as the lens is far away form the bulb they are fine, but most projectors meant for halogen bulbs will not do well with HIDS
