I think you could do it with some fabrication but the 8.8 is all you need.

you could install a 9" rear, but an 8.8" rear with moser 31 splines and an auburn posi will hold all the power a v6 will throw at it.

I was just thinking how easy it might be to round up a decent 9" from most any junkyard on earth and throw it on...no clue what would be involved...
What would be the downside?

it would be havier than the 8.8 but no by a whole lot but for a v6 you dont need anything more than the 8.8. a built 8.8 can handle up to about 700rwhp which equates to about a thousand hp motor which...... a v6 will never make at least not one built by ford

But...wouldn't it be more economical <cheaper sounds, well...cheap> lol to gather up the 9 that there are millions of (older ones, of course) instead of working with the 7.5 or hunting a newer 8.8? Should be able to find a 9 with the 4:10 gears and posi already intact, you think?

well get the rear end if your tired of one wheeled burn outs... and if your concerend about tire wear...
any time is a good time... you can never go wrong with a better gear ratio... or posi and if you have the money this is one of the first mods i would recomend

If you plan on makin your car a high power application do it asap so you don't have to worry about it. You do it because the 7.5 is rather weak, and can be easily broken.

450 is too much for the 7.5...a full bolt on car with some slicks would be too much also.

full bolt on with slicks...i doubt it. darell jus said that he had a 13 second car on slicks that had a 7.5 that handle it nicely
heads and cam...different story

here is a general question I guess, which rear ends have Posi? or can they all come with it? Im not a rear end girl, Im a motor girl, but I have posi so what rear end would I most likely have? I just dont feel like doing it the old school way and putting it on jackstands ands all that shit and figuring it out. Thats the only way we found out my 88 chevy 350 silverado stepside truck had different rear end (4:10 in the rear) than the front
Like I said im a complete blonde with rear ends |
