Exhaust help!!
hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and i could really use some help/advice. I have a 2002 black mustang v6 and I'm going to get a new exhaust system. As of right now i want to buy the Flowmaster 40 series mufflers but i'm not sure about the H pipe, Y pipe, or true dual exhaust. if someone can explain what they are or which one is best for my car. I'm also thinking about dumping it because i'm not too crazy about the tips with out a gt bumper, does that effect the sound at all? (besides being louder inside the car) I would appreciate any advice/opinions. thanks in advance.

1) Welcome to the site
2) Most people would suggest getting exhaust custom made at the shop and that's a great muffler chioce. The H- and X-pipe are two different ways to do a true dual setup (which is the way to go). The H pipe will sound better than an X pipe but an X pipe will give a little more power while being a little rhaspy. If you dump it, yes it will be louder inside but a common opinion around here is that it sounds better 3) I wouldn't get the GT bumper because it looks fine when the tips are just under the bumper. IMO, that's too much money to pay for a couple of arches on the bottom of the bumper lol |

thanks... yea im pretty sure i'm going to go with a h-pipe.. and i wouldn't want the gt bumper, i was just saying i dont really like how the tips look on a v6, so i want to dump it... i found the flow 40's online for 70 each.. is that good? and also what would i say to the shop so they know what i'm talking about, i'm new with all of this as you can see.

lol, I was new to it once too...Just tell the shop that you want true duals with an H pipe and they should know what you're talking about. If they don't, find a new shop lol. And what site is that on for the 40s?
Edit: There's some people in the exhaust for sale forum that are selling Flow 40's for a lot cheaper than that...I'd start doing some PMing lol

I would just tell them to dump it and they'll know what you mean. If you say 'dumping the tips,' there might be some confusion
and yes |

flowmasters sound really good on a V6 at WOT lol. They are so so normal driving. Certain RPMs/Speeds they have some drone. Like 30mph, 50mph and usually around 1500rpm.
Magnaflows sound best on a V8 IMO. They are decent on V6s too. |

If you have it in your budget, at least take a look at long tubes while your at it. Its cheaper to get it done now than later. And believe me, you will LOVE the set up you are talking about above. It will be like night and day compared to stock. However, within a year or so, you will get bored and want more (its normal, we all do...its called mustangmoding disease) and you will wish you would have at least tried to get long tubes when you had it at the shop.
