It's legal to have them removed if they have 100,000 miles on them I belive. Also it's legal to have them removed if the cat is damaged (oops I think my screw driver just slipped out of my hand and put a whole in my cat) but with both situations I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be replaced.

I think I see accidental cat damage in my future.

"yeah I dont know what happened to my cats, all I did was run off a ramp and hit the ground, bottoming out at 100mph. So im not really sure why they are crushed like that"

muahahahaha!

"Oh btw I just so happen to have these LTs right over here and some hi flow cats"

Just go in and say you ran over something on the highway and don't know what it was and now your exhaust sounds like shit. So when you got home you saw your cats were damaged so you went and got some high flow cats and LT's. Tell them you assumed it wasn't illegal since it looks like it is bad for your car and you heard the long tubes and high flows would fix it as well as make it more efficient. I'm sure if you were very nice they wouldn't mind. remember to act innocent. lol

all the cat/no cat/some cat's talk is pointless in this case because if your trying to stay emmission legal, long tube's aren't legal to begin with (federal emmission violation to move the o2 sensors) if your gonna get l/t's just get an off road h/x & be done with it.

or I guess if you measured where the O2 sensor is on the stock mani's and then drilled a hole and welded a bung for the 02's on the LT's you could avoid actually moving it. Right?

sorta, kinda, mabie, but then you'd be back to square one with the converter thing. I guess the point I was trying to make is that if your worried that much about emmissions then you should just stick with a cat back because all header/mid pipe combo's have something that will mess you up for a 100% legal emmission test (moving o2's,moving cats, changing # of cats & so on) because to be comlpetely emmission complyant you cant touch anything forward of the rear most end for the rear most cat, period.

okay, what if i did all of this to my car and then one day in the future they put emmisions here in SC? what would they tell me to do, cause if it has something to do with me replacing my longtubes with shortys and all, thats not happening.

Most likely the same exact thing they would do if you already had Emissions Testing. It's the rules. Either bend them or break them which ever you choose just don't get caught.
