A rim question

Will 18x9 rims fit on my 99 stang, without rubbing when you turn it? And how bad will that mess up my speedometer?

It will fit as long as you don't get too high a profile tire and it really shouldn't make your speedo too inaccurate either. Plenty of people run this size without any issues.

You should be fine, I have seen some guys run 20's on the new edges, even though they were ugly they were fine and no rubbing

i have 18x9s on my car with a 275-35-18 tire the tires rub a little bit in the front on the sway bar when i turn all the way. its not a big problem.... you wont even notice or damage anything. the smallest tire i would run on an 18x9 rim is a 265. i dont know if that tire size will rub or not tho.

oh and if you run a 265-35-18 tire your speedo will be off a little bit. when your speedo says 60 your going 59mph lol. with 275-35-18 tires your speedo should be right on.

The rims say they come with a 235-40-18 size tire?

It will only rub if you lower your car. When I turned the wheel all the way to the side, it would rub with FRPP C Springs and even more with Eibach Sportlines - and I have 17" wheels (275/40/17).

The math:
    1. 275/40/17:
  • Total Wheel/Tire Diameter = Total Sidewall Height + Wheel Diameter
  • Total Sidewall Height = 275mm*40%*2 = 220mm = 8.668"
  • Wheel Diameter = 17"
  • Total Wheel/Tire Diameter = 17" + 8.668" = 25.668"
    1. 245/40/18:
  • Total Wheel/Tire Diameter = Total Sidewall Height + Wheel Diameter
  • Total Sidewall Height = 245mm*40%*2 = 196mm = 7.7224"
  • Wheel Diameter = 18"
  • Total Wheel/Tire Diameter = 17" + 7.7224" = 25.7224"

So the overall diameter of the 18" wheel/tire package is only going to be (25.7224-25.668) 0.0544" and is negligible. Also, this is a narrower tire on the 18" wheel as opposed to the 17" wheel. You will rub the same amount between the two at equal ride heights.

That will be even narrower than my example in the previous post. You will rub less in this case.

p.s. Your overall Wheel/Tire Diameter will be smaller so your speedometer will be slightly affected; you will rub less in turning though. The difference will be very small if not negligible.

Lowering your car is all in your preference and what you want in your car. I could not stand the 4x4 stance the Mustang has from the factory, so I dropped it with FRPP C springs (1.25") but it wasn't low enough. I then went with Eibach Sportlines (2.2" drop) and MM C/C plates. I prefer the lowered look, but it really is owner preference and your goals with your car will determine your decision.

I don't rub in normal daily driving. I only rub when I turn the wheel all the way to one side or the other.

+1 across the board with AB99... however on the case of tire width 265 the smallest?!? crazy why would want such wide tires on the front? I run 245's and I almost say too wide, 235's should be fine, as AB said that would equal less rubbing. I have Eibach prokit springs and tokico struts which lowers it around 1.5" and on full turn there is some rubbing, also on hard braking especially with passengers in the car. I say get rid of the 4x4 look though!

...also on the case of the speedo being off, I run 18x9/10 and 245-40 / 275-35 and the speedo is off a few MPH, no huge deal but if you're looking for a tune somewhere down the road I'm pretty sure some custom tunes can put your rim/tire size in the equation.

Right on. I have the SCT XCal II, and it has parameters for different size tires to correct the speedometer.

im sayin on an 18x9 rim the smallest i would run is a 265. i dont like the idea of running such a small tire on a bigger rim. if you run a smaller tire on a wider rim the side wall will be at an angle do to the tire not being as wide as the rim and it will look really wierd.

your speedo wont be off by a few mph runing a 275-35 or a 245-40, it will be off less the 1mph so you dont have anything to worry about but yeah +1 on a tuner. you can change your speedo according to tire size.
