Question

Odd Noise

Most of the time when I stop at a traffic light or stop sign after driving for a little while my car makes an odd rattle/buzzing noise. The noise is coming from the rear of the car and seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car. Has anybody else experienced this problem, or does anybody know what it could be? It only happens at a stop when it is in drive and my foot is on the brake. As soon as my foot leaves the brake the nose is gone.

There was just a thread about this same area making a noise a couple weeks ago. Try searching or scrolling through this section for a thread titles "weird noise" or something like that.

We suggested to the OP of that thread to go around where you think the noise is coming from and make sure everything is tightened down and no bushings are beat up or anything like that. A lot of the time loose bolts will rattle from vibrations from idling at stop and such. I don't recall if the other thread ended in a solution or not... That's all I've got for now.

Shoot, when I stop at a light with my foot on the brake, my car sounds like its going to rattle apart. I've gotten to the point where I put it in nuetral just so I dont get shaken apart. I think mine has to due with the alternator though. I dont think its charging right. With the AC and headlights on, its even worse. I think I read somewhere that the alternator doesnt charge at its best until after a certain RPM. anyway, good luck and post up anything you find out because I'd like to know too.

DGT was it you who made that thread a couple weeks ago?

to the OP... you'd be surprised what makes noise after awhile, as was DGT's problem, the brakes being warped or carved by the pads overtime and any loose bolts will cause some problems in the ear-ache department.

Even in a "stopped" car??? I would assume that coming to the stop that warped rotors would cause an earthquake but after you are at a stop wouldnt the vibration stop as well????

Ahh he is already stopped... I was thinking that the noise was upon the act of stopping. Well in this case could the driveshaft/rear end/ tranny and all linkages be causing the problem?

04 Stang is your car auto or manuel?

Nah, it wasnt my thread, i think i missed the part where it was doing it a full stop, driveshaft then maybe? did you bottom out or something? driveshaft is the only thing that is spinning at stop besides pullies under the hood and sometimes your fan, check the fan for chips or missing pieces, and then look at your pullies for a warped issure.

i too can hear the slight buzzing noise in the rear of my 97 especially when the rear seats are down. ive located it as fuel pump noise.... only because it gets louder with less than 1/4 tank of gas. as far as when the brake pedal is down it is a lil louder and i think it might be a change in voltage. just my 2 cents.

So far I have not bottomed out or done anything that could cause trauma to the car, but I did just get the car, so the previous owner could have done something to it. It only has 20K miles, so it is young to have big problems, but as I said the previous owner could have damaged it.

And the drive shaft doesn't spin while stopped. it spins only when tires are spinning. at least that's how mine works.

hmm I dunno much or the auto tranny i someone else wants to chime in i anything with that could cause vibrations. I dont think anything with the driveshaft would cause problems with those miles but racing around and beating the car can wear the tranny. Lol I think I recall the DS on school buses spinning while stopped from like elementary/middle school. Is my memory that fucked up ?

I still havent found the problem with the noise, but I found something else that affects the noise. If I am at a stop and the noise is happening I tried turning my steering wheel. As I turn the wheel, and for about a few seconds after the wheel has been turned the noise stops. I do not know if this affects finding what it is in any way, but I do not think it could be the tranny if the steering wheel affects it. Can anyone else think of anything?? Thanks.

Haha, yeah. I would do that but it happens at every stop and its pretty loud. It gets really annoying. I hope i can find what it is before it breaks.
