Any other ideas on mods that are in the $400 range or less, that I can install myself?

Nothing wrong with what Triple A said... buy yourself 2 flows and have a shop fab up some duals. If you find the right shop, the mufflers will cost more than they'll charge to fab up the pipes.
Is your car auto or manual? If it's an auto, a tuner will firm up the shifts - it'll be really noticeable. If it's a 5 speed, I'd get the tuner when you do gears later down the road. |

It's an auto. Yeah, I want the CAI and Exhaust in by the end of summer, that my hopeful minimum..

Isnt the filter normally part of the CAI?

Yeah so an intake will cost me roughly $45 + tax.

You only turn it on a full throttle and above 3k rpm's and you turn it off when you are finished. Check local pricing for bottle fills. I think most people pay $3/lbs but here in indiana they charge $4.50-$8.50/lbs... which is rediculous... You will also want a CAI for nitrous... oh and only get a WET kit... ZEX is the safest way to go. Nitrous is a great/cheap way for a little fun/good runs at the track as long as you don't want it all the time. You only have it when you have a filled bottle... so if that would bother you, you need to go with a blower. hope that helped a little... if you want more info about installs/why it works/what you need to know... there are some good write-ups available. Check out the stickies in the power adder section of 3.8mustang.com/forum.

So, I'v been thinking a lot about exhaust. And I dont know if I'm going to be able to afford dual. So, is it possible, to have a mean sounding exhaust (not ricey) thats a single exhaust? I'm not looking for a huge performance gain, just a mean sound. Is it possible?

from the mods you listed in the first post...
CAI = $80 exhaust = $300 GThood = $100-200 (from a junkyard... or a non-OEM cheap pos...) gotta paint the hood to match = $200 chin spoiler = $100 rear louvers = $300 cobra front bumper = $300+ (good luck finding one at a junkyard) paint bumper to match = $200 you'd have a ok looking car, with maybe 10 hp if you're lucky so the car isn't much faster... for a total of $1600 and none of that will raise the value of the car when you go to sell it... my opinion... wait and save for what you really want... if you want to make your car look better in the meantime, get some new rims, since those can be used on any stang you buy next... so it's not money wasted if you want it a bit faster in the meantime, get a tuner ($400)... those can also be used on any mustang you end up getting so you can look at it as buying mods for your next car, but using them on the 6er while you save up |

JEGS Dual Exhaust Kits - JEGS
will these fit on my car? Like they say what cars it can fit on, but i have a hard time believing that it's ONLY those cars that fit. |

Yeah I wouldn't change the exhaust unless you go duals, kinda pointless, you'd probably like the stock sound over what you put on. And springs are an easy install, but I wouldn't call it fun LoL.
I don't have much speed wise done, but everything I do is self install, which saves money and to me is a great learning experience and much more gratifying. What I did for 2009 was make an excel spreadsheet of all the mods (realistically) that I want to put on this year. I then find the cheapest place (with accepatble quality) that sells the item. The spreadsheet has the items, distributor, and price for each, then a total for each month. Mine goes through August and totals about 4 grand depending on how much installs cost for things I can't do myself, etc. I think this is a good idea to keep yourself on track and again to me more gratifying that you actually make a short term goal and complete it.

Any bolt in can be had for that price. If you buy local, and install the parts yourself, gears and exhaust can be done with that budget too.

And also, I've been thinking about the exhaust, and instead of buying a new rear bumper, would it be possible to put on 3" turn down tips? that would save me roughly $250-$300, would it sound louder and meaner then my stock six exhaust? I dont care if "wouldn't sound as good as a regular dual." |
