I see your question went unanswered. No they are not just a really big tire. they are made out of a softer compound rubber that gets more traction than a street tire. they are really sticky.

I just got some nitto 305 DRs, but I have to finish up the rear suspension to test them out. Probably won't be a fair comparison after adding lowers, sway bar, coil overs, TQ arm, and panhard, but at least testing traction is FUN!!

you need to know how wide they are to know what tire can fit.

I know in my 6, if I'm at 42 or 43 mph, the car is in its highest gear at its lowest RPMs. If I stomp on the gas, it downshifts and then accelerates (and it makes a little "squeek"). You say you have an SCT "tune" (as in like a chip or something or do you have a handheld?). I was just thinking maybe you can change the shift point and pressure to maximize from that roll speed.
I got the SF3 SCT and ever since I installed the 91 performance tune my car chirps in the 40MPH area if I'm WOT and I got new Nitto's on the back so I know it's not bad traction... It's too much shift pressure. Adjust the shift pressure from your handheld down to -25% for all shifts and it will take away that chirp.
