well you should be good to start mods... i would suggest the under drives CAI exhaust and all oter bolt ons then gears and tuners... and a t-lok ... usually these things run about $600 for the parts ... in their own groups...

t lok and gear ... bout $600 installed
CAI U/D's and Screamin Demon... round $600
Exhaust... with your discount... bout $600
ohh yea -- Tires... and wheels a lil over $600 well mine were right at but hey...
now tuners are a whole nother thing ther are tons but most people recommend SCT tunners...

uhh yea... just read some other post and youll get soem ideas

you might be able to keep up with him throught first and second if you get 4.56's out back

In a stock singleport, you really think 4.56 gears would help that much to keep up with the srt4

if they are both stock and the stang has great tires... ya i could see first gear being close and even second gear... throught the bottom of it...

i would like to say... not every ricer is fast of the line... i kept up with an SI off the line and i had shit for tires...

so you have a slight chance ...

but 4.56's are more for track use... and your car would probably top out at about 130 ish...

dont use 4's in the rear if you're driving on the street. your engine will constantly be at high rpm's. go with mid 3's and you will be quick and still stand to drive the thing on the highway

you WILL NEED
new internals
new rear
and forced induction or nitrous or a new different engine to beat him

otherwise a n/a 3.8 will not stand a chance at beating a SRT-4....MAYBE a chance...you'd need, a split port swap heads, cam, porting job, EVERY bolt on and forged internals...4.10s and t-lok...that'd be a good race

and the SRT-4 has to be stock or BARELY modded

i didnt mean literally but they basically do.. idk what controls rpms.. but if you have 4.10s your rpms will be higher than if you had stock gears.. so explain yourself!

oh i forgot..... me and one of my friends were messing with an srt-4 on the highway in his 96 stang gt and the srt ate us alive. those cars are fast as f$ck. you would need an insane amount of work and parts to beat on of those.

60mph in my 4r70w is about 2200 rpms. 75 is at 3k, the gears will affect cruise speeds and get you through the rpms quicker, but it will not directly affect rpms at all. this is a drivetrain component, not an engine component such as a camshaft.

all you need is about 300rwhp to smoke th srt-4. get 4.10:1 ring and pinion gears in an FRPP T-Lok differential, then slap on the 8 or 11psi procharger kit from VMPTuning.com. save your money til you have enough. this is the easiest and most efficient way to maintain driveability while smoking the srt-4 all day. the tune is where it is at, and Justin at VMPTuning.com is the essex ford v6 motor god!
