weird squealing/screeching noise

Ok, i really hope somebody can help me out with this. Recently I was driving and my car just started making a really loud squealing/screeching noise from under the hood, but the noise would stop as soon as i pushed my clutch in. I suspected it was my serpentine belt cause it was pretty cracked and old. Well i changed that and the noise came back, but it stopped for about a week or so. Today i was driving again and the noise came back worse than before and it didn't stop even when i pushed the clutch in. I started smelling something from under the hood and my clutch pedal started getting really soft. So now i'm suspecting it's the clutch but where could the noise becoming from and why did it stop when i pushed the clutch in? What are some of the things that could be wrong? The car has almost 71,000 on it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My car has been doing the same thing and it's the Throw Out Bearing so it sounds like a new clutch is the very new future. Trust me the noise will only get worse.

it's usually the throw out bearing that makes that noise, which means your clutch is about to go. Get a new clutch and make sure ti comes with the bearing

I'm in the same boat as you. I was going to get it but I'm waiting for it to be back in stock. I guess one good thing about my coolant line breaking off is that now I have to wait to get my clutch fixed. Hopefully they will be back instock when I get the rest of the car fixed.

Clutch, Pilot Bearing, Throw-Out Bearing, and Input Shaft.

Where did you end up getting your clutch from and how much did it set you back? AM is supposed to have the clutches restocked towards the middle of next week. So it looks like I'm waiting. Even without the discount AM is without a doubt the best bang for buck one stop shop.

I got it from autozone. I really wanted the one from AM but like i said, it's so bad that it has to be changed now. If it wasn't my daily driver i wouldn't mind waiting lol
