A lil help plz......

Well ive just got a '96 mustang for my first car and off course with your first car comes with probs. So that brings me to my question about the battery costantly draining. The battery is brand new and if i drive it around a couple hours it charges up pretty good, but is dead within 3 days. Any suggestions on what to do.

It could be a short somewhere in your car. I know from experience that I had a car with a short in the alarm and it kept draining the battery. I cut the alarm out and it worked perfectly. The battery did the same thing it is doing to you. So check your alarm, maybe thats it?

I would have to say u could possibly be right but i already tried unhookin the alarm system and the battery still drained. My dad thinks it might be the stereo so ill have to check that next.

To check if it is the alternator: start you car and then unhook the negative from the battery. if your car continues to run for a little while then it is not your alternator. I agree with what the others are saying about a short. I had a very similiar problem as you. in my case i had an amp that was draining the battery. when i was shutting my car off the amp kept running. I would definately check any aftermarket electrical things you may have.

You can fry the computer doing that. Go to Harbor Frieght and buy the alternator tester for $2.99. Or just go to AZ and let them test it for free.

Actually i do believe its the stereo. Me and my bro-in-law were looking around behind the stereo and found that the speaker wire has a loose connection. Messin' with the wire cause the stereo to mute and even have sound when the screen said mute.

the alternator is fine, if the car will charge back up, its fine... the thing is your circuits are bad, you have a faulty wire somewhere... more then likely its a ground. have fun searchin.

replacing the battery cables wouldn't be a bad idea if you get around to it. I'm sure they aren't in the best of shape, I know mine aren't.
