exhaust manifold problems
We had a noise when the engine was cold that sounded to me like lifter noise. It turned out it was a cracked weld in the right exhaust manifold. After I took it out I could see evidence of leakage between two of the flanges that bolt up to the head and the pipe. When the manifold heated up it apparently sealed again. I replaced both exhaust manifolds and the noise is gone.
This is apparently a common problem on V6 Mustangs, so it's a good idea to check the manifolds if there is a loud rapping noise when the engine starts from cold. |
