hmm...considering 4.2?

i was just browsing around SSMS and thought maybe instead of redoing my 3.8 with new internals i might just move on to a newer 4.2! I'm considering buying their 4.2 shortblock with forged internals and working my way up from there. Im in highschool right now and all my expenses are pretty much taken care of for the moment. If i read it right i think the 4.2 short block is only 2900? if so im really not that far from reaching it. i do have a job sooooooooooooo yeah.

EDIT: Wiring harnesses?! Where could i find those?

bah, highschool :X i had to pay for insurance, college, etc....you lucky bastard I dont know 4.2 is probably a huge pain in the ass to do. Wiring harnesses is one problem but you might want to direct yourself the engine forums.

i know, i plan on building it outside my car to spare me the hassel of having to piece together my daily driver engine. this way i make sure it's all ready to be dropped in after im done piecing it together. so in a year or 2 i'll have a ready engine just waiting to be swapped. while we're on the subject, what about transmissions?

gah but that also means a manual conversion shiz...will autos work with the 4.2? I think a full on manual conversion is a bit out of my league.

the outside has nothign to do with the engine
a short block by itself will not start or move at all
you need heads, upper and lower intakes and more

Youd probably be better off getting a 4.2 out of an f150...That way all you will need to do is reuse your intake, and exhaust manifold s

ok so i've run my options and i think it'd be a lot easier and cost effective to just throw forged internals into the 3.8 block, get the stage 3 pp and that 4R70W tranny. then later i can supercharge!

I went with a 4.2 Crank new from Ford, along with some Scat rods and Ross Forged pistons.
