Replace Stock V6 Gauge With Gt Guages? Can It Be Done?

Hi, I'm tired of my gauges in my 2000 V6 mustang pegging at 125 even though the car is still picking up speed. I would like to replace the stock gauge cluster with one out of a GT, a speedo that goes to 150. I hear from some people that it is a simple plug and play type of thing. While others tell me that you can't do it. Does anyone in here know the answer please?

ive heard that it will fit, but the tachometer will be off, but you should be able to get it that fixed somehow.

Do you happen to know why the speedometer would be right but not the tach? The tach is identical to the V6 one, the Speedo is the one that is different. I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to figure out why. Any ideas?

Sadly it has to be custom, there is no user option to let you turn off PATS.

I'm installing my saleen kit on the car this winter, so I actually think I've decided to go with the saleen cluster. I did some more research and all I have to do is take it to a ford dealership and have the computers reprogramed. Then the anti theft stuff will still work. Does that sound right to anyone else?

Yes, i believe ford can do it for you...They will charge you out the ass though . You might as well use this excuse to get a tuner

well, they do have different spedos, but, as i was informed, the signals the v6s and the v8s send to the speedo is the same, but the signals to the tach are different.

I believe I've heard of a couple people who have done it. They had to take it to the dealership to get it to work properly though. Dealer charged around $100 if I recall correctly.

edit: our cars aren't meant to go that fast, so there's no reason for you to do so. You won't even be able to get out of the 130s, so there really isn't any reason to get a 150mph speedometer.

Stage II Procharger, three core intercooler, 200 shot of juice, in a 4.2 stroker. Yes, it can hit 150. It's been caught on my buddy's radar. He's a baltimore city cop. As I was saying, should I stick with the GT gauges that top at 150, or just throw in the Saleen gauges, 1. because they'll match the interior and rest of the car next spring after the Saleen Kit is installed, 2. because the car does go a little higher than 150? Also, I'm not posing as a V8 or anything. I'm having special S256 emblems made up. And the honey comb panel on the back already has the V6 badge on, not the gt one.

it really depends on what you want to do, if you like how the saleen gauges look over the gt gauges, then go with them.

thats what i was thinking....

but my question is why do u want 150+ on there in the first place besides to make it look like a faster car....if u are doing over 150 then u prolly shouldnt be on the road in the first place bc at those speeds ur gonna end up killing someone

i just have never seen the point of people doing that unless it was a full gt to saleen conversion or something...just kinda dumb...

You do realize that there are street legal twin turbo mustangs out there and that they have been winning the shootouts at dragstrips right? Research it. There was a 1996 purple TT V6 in Mustangs and fast fords last year. Ran 9.23 1/4 mile. And it was his everyday driver. If they have 4 bangers out there than can run 9's, why do people have such a hard time understanding that a 6 cyl. can too? P.S. I should note that this was originally bought as an everyday driver until I read that article. I have since bought a 94 vortec blazer 4x4 for my everyday car. I keep this as a weekend car. As for V8s, I have a 1967 Ford Ranchero with a 351w. I grew up building muscle cars and street rods with my dad. I just got the idea one day to start dumping money in the mustang. Think about it. How many beefed up GTs and cobras do you see? Now, how often do you see a V6 Mustang that could rip them a new a$$? Yes, it does seem pointless and like a lot of work when you could have just bought a V8 to begin with, but where the fun in that? What can I say? I like a challenge. Now anyway, back to the subject. So all I would have to do is take the car and the new gauge cluster to a ford deal and pay them to reprogram everything? Is that correct?
