7.5 with trac lock

how much can a 7.5 with a trac lock diff hold anyone know??? Going to put a 5.0 in my v6 this summer make it a sleeper, but dont really want to change the rear end yet, cause its in good condition and money tight. thinking about leaving the 7.5 for now putting in a trac lock diff and just seeing how long it holds up then once it goes put in a 8.8 later on because the 5.0 used to have 7.5 so it should hold for a while with no launches or drag radials what you think????

If money is tight, how do you plan on doing an engine swap.

if its DD then i guess itll be okay.. at least for the time being .. since you wont be launching hard esp with slicks so.. but lets say it does blow then your out of money while you coulda spent that money on the 8.8 ..

ya me to but i have heard 7.5 are really under rated for there strength. i mean im just using the 7.5 just to drive around in a stock 5.0 dont plan on beating on the thing. probably only need this rear end to last for about a 5 months, because the motor i have needs some work. going to get the bugs out, has low miles but it has been sitting in my friends garage for a while now.

very true i have been thinking about that, but a 7.5 with trac lock daily driver, you really dont think it will hold up that long or hold at all

A stock 5.0 isn't much more powerful than a 99+ v6 mustang.

Chris is planning on building his 7.5

And do you have wiring, gauge cluster, all that electrical fun stuff figured out already?

i now hp wise its about the same but its not hp that kills a rear end its the torque. All electrical is in the making, havn't had time lately to go out searching for parts.

ya i agree that is why im trying to get some feed back on the strength of the 7.5 from other people cause i have heard 7.5 hold up to 400rwhp and some that blow from stock v6 like the old one i used to have before i have the one i have now which is a rebuilt

Are you putting in the old pushrod 5.0? They put so much strain on your rear end that I'm afraid even building it you might pop something...

so as long as i dont put on slicks and do any launches should be fine because i understand that the newer 3.9 v6 has about the same hp as the older 5.0 kinda forgot about that thanks everyone for the feedback very helpful so im gonna go with the trac lock and see how long it lasts then put in a 8.8 before i put anything more behind the 5.0.
