Clutch Install

I'm ordering a SPEC Stage 1 clutch kit and Steeda Clutch Adjuster Kit from AM, just wondering if there's anything important I should know aside from general install directions (I have them). If anyone has gone through a clutch install and has any tips let me know. Should I change out tranny fluid? Don't think it's ever been done...Thanks guys.

I'd change the fluid if it hasn't ever been changed. It'll love some nice royal purple in there... Clutch installs aren't really difficult at all, just take your time and it'll go smoothly. The hardest part is getting the input shaft to slide through the clutch splines and into the pilot bearing.

I would recommend having the flywheel resurfaced.

Use a pilot tool to align the disk and put some high melting point grease on the input shaft splines. I would recommend reinstalling the transmission with a trans jack. Get it roughly lined up and install some long trans to engine bolts to act as guide pins. Then with the trans in gear slide it up there and turn the output shaft some to help line up the splines. It should then slide up smoothly.

Resurfacing flywheel would have to be machine shop I suppose? I can't really be without the vehicle I was planning on getting this done in one day next weekend so that probably won't get done... for everything else thanks guys... Royal purple I plan on getting for the fluid, anyone know what size the container AM sells is? Is that by the quart? Says the tranny takes 3.25 qts. but I didn't see what size the container was...

Most machine shops could surface the flywheel and get it back to you in a few hours.

Hmm... maybe then, if I take it first thing if they're open Saturday, I can install the adjuster kit and then go pick up the flywheel and finish up. Just to clarify surfacing it would create a better surface to catch and prevent slipping?

The surfacing is a lot like surfacing a brake rotor. It gives a smooth surface and helps prevent chattering etc. If the surface is just glazed it might be OK to just sand it with fine emery cloth but if it's uneven or grooved then it really needs to be surfaced.
