Question

Very Odd Electrical Problem

Hello everyone, I just recently got a really odd electrical problem in my 2004 Mustang V6. I was playing around with my wires in the trunk that come off of my aftermarket amplifier, that power my aftermarket subwoofers, and I exerienced a slight problem. I forgot to unplug the battery and my power was still on. As I was touching the wires my stock radio (headunit) completely went out. It was as if it was turned off, but the power was still on. Then I realized my windsheild wipers did not work either, as if there was not power to those as well. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Is there any way to reset the electrical in the car, so I can see if that works?

yea, I thought it may be fuses, i was looking at the ones for the radio and windsheild wipers and they had what looked like burn marks at the top of the metal prongs. Also, I was just messing with the radio, and it looks like it is off with no power, but when I hold down the eject button it will eject a CD, could it still be a fuse if it has power to do that??

ur eject botton is a feature that does not need same power as toturn radio on. it is based off your memory as most makers do. and ur fuses 1. are hard to look at and tell. spend the 4 minites and pull each one out from under ur dash. as well as under hood. i know 100% that ur radio is off two fused one under dash. and also one under hood. complete system is not ran from one. check all if thats no help pm me. i have complete wire layout. ill help ya out

You think you could pm a complete wire layout? Is it of the whole car?

That would help my project along nicely

Dude, if you can get it for me that would be great. Having a complete layout will make things so much easier now, and for future projects.

I'm working on making a completely keyless starter. Here is the thread i made just showing a little of what i've done so far Phase 1 complete (somewhat)

Nah, in the video you can see that the switch only powers 1 of the lines that is live when you turn the key on. There is 5 12v lines, and 4 lines for the on position, and 1 for the starter. So thats why on the second page of that thread i made up a way to do it using relays

the problem with the way it is in the video (not with the relay setup as im still working on it...with the one that im just using the jumper) is that it blows a fuse every time. I'm hoping by using the relays i'll avoid that and i should know by the end of tomorrow

if i can find it (buddy found it a year ago in college and installed it on a camaro i sold him) but its a push buttom that has a outter ring such as the glowing ring on your colum. that is basically a older style key lock but with a puch botton in the center. so unless you know to turn it then puch botton you get nothing. ill see if i can find one. and ill look at my paperwork here at the house because you wiring is same as mine. ill see if i can scan it and get it to ya tonight

so basically what your talking about looks like the thing where you put the key in, but you just twist it and push it in? I do plan on still being able to use the key, so i dont think that would work

I'm in no rush to get it, so whenevers good for you

I want the keyless starter, but i want to still be able to use the key if need be. I dont want to completely do away with the regular key abilities, because say one of my relays or switches goes bad...I'd be fucked and no way to start the car

well not to be a downer but think about this. if you have a wire with a switch in it such as your video. or relays like you were saying u are trying. u cannot usa a key and have all that hooked up. it will not work. now you can run a keyless system with a puch botton. and if it ever goes out you can unplug everything and hook it back up under ur colum and use the key. but i see no way to use a keyless but still ablility to use a key. only way possible is to go buy a 100 dollar keyles start.. but it will be start by remote

How do you figure there will be no way? If my switch is off then the ignition is exactly like as if it has never even been touched.
And in that video, both the key and the switch works to turn on the car.
